It's been a while, as usual. I just wanted to fill you in on this past weekend. I had the opportunity to run a 5k this past weekend. It was a special 5k though, called The Color Run.

The Color Run was amazing!!! For those of you who don't know, The Color Run is a 5k, and at each kilometer, they throw a different colored powder on you! There's a yellow station, pink station, orange station, and blue station. Then at the very end you have your own packet of color that you get to throw on yourself/others. In our group we had pink, orange, purple, and blue. This was by far the most fun thing I have ever done. It truly is the happiest 5k on the planet!

The other great thing about this run was that I had my own goal as well. This race was literally for fun. There was no official time or anything (which is good because there were over 15,000 people there). However, my personal goal was to run the whole thing. Originally my goal was to do it in 30 minutes, but when people are throwing colored powder on you, you really want to get as much as possible, which means a little bit of walking. So I changed my goal to 36 minutes. And you know what? Even with the walking at each color (there was a little bit of a back up at each one), I did it, with the help of my friends in just about 35 minutes!!!

My friend Robyn and I made matching shirts that said "When life hands you color... run with it!" on the front and it had our nicknames and a quatrafoil on the back. Robyn got to do this with me because one of my other friends dropped out. There was also a team of law school students doing it, but 3 of the 4 of them dropped out. So since we had some open spots, we got another law student to join us and then my mom and her friend got to do it as well. Robyn had some of her friends doing it too. So when we started, there was about 10 of us starting together. We split up pretty quickly because myself and the two law students were trying to run the whole thing, which we did, with the encouragement of each other.

I wish I had gotten some pictures while we were running, but I was concerned for my phone and camera. However, I did get some good pictures at the beginning and end.

Basically as soon as I got done running and throwing color on everyone in sight, I went back to Robyn's house and grabbed a shower. It took about 25 minutes to scrub all the color off, and I still missed some, but it eventually all came off. As soon as I got out, I drove home to Oxford, got changed for the Grove, and headed out. In the span of 3 hours I finished the Color Run, showered, drove to Oxford, and went to the Grove. It was pretty awesome.

I enjoyed the Grove (tailgating) this week. We played Auburn, and beat them!!! It was our first Conference win in about 2 years, so needless to say, Ole Miss fans were pretty excited. The game was at 11:20 am, so we had the whole afternoon in the Grove on a beautiful day. That evening Kevin and I went out for a late dinner with friends. I pretty much crashed after that. I had gotten up at 6:45 that morning and run a 5k. Hahaha.

Today was spent watching football and reading for class. Pretty boring. However, for your enjoyment, I'm including some pics from the Color Run below. Have a great week!
I am starting my last year of law school. I am definitely going to be busy this semester. I am only taking 14 hours (as opposed to 15 or 16 hours like normal). I have 3 classes and a clinic.

My first class is Bankruptcy, and it is Mondays and Wednesdays form 1:30-3. I am very excited for this class. I am still not entirely sure about the material, but it's taught by the same professor who taught me Secured Transactions and I understood that very well. Also, everyone who took Bankruptcy last fall said it was a great class. On top of all of that, it is completely full of some of the best people in our 3L class. It's just great being in a class with about 60 of your friends.

My second class is Corporations on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30-11. That class I am less thrilled about. The professor talks more business than law, and there are 115 people in there. It's crazy! However, everyone I talked to said that the final exam was fairly easy. The main reason I'm taking the class is so when I get to the bar review next summer, I'll (hopefully) have some idea of what's going on.

My third class is Depositions and Negotiations on Tuesdays from 6-8:30. This class is one that I am very excited about. It is a pass/fail class, which is nice, and there are only 20 of us. For those of you who don't know, depositions are an important part of the law practice. They are basically interviews between a lawyer and a witness or defendant or plaintiff. It is used to get facts from a witness, and essentially find out what their testimony will be before trial. There is also an opportunity to cross them if you so choose, and there are limited objections, so you can get more information that could lead to admissible evidence in court. So we will learn how to conduct these depositions, and how to use them. We will actually conduct depositions as well. Obviously, the second part of the class is negotiations. We learn how to negotiate in a litigation setting, in a deal setting, and in a multi-party setting.

The last academic thing I am doing is the Child Advocacy Clinic. We have class periods on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5. I will also be assigned actual cases involving children (generally custody cases), and we'll be in charge of them. My partner and myself will interview the clients, and anybody who may have an opinion or information. Then we will make a recommendation on where the child should go. We will literally have their future in our hands (scary thought). For this class, it is a 5 hour graded class, but there is no final. I will have to complete 150 hours of work over the semester though (which makes me nervous, that is a lot of work). I am very excited to get going though. We get our first cases assigned to us on Monday.

In addition to school this year I am doing ballet again. I had so much fun last year doing it, that I am definitely doing it again. I have also joined a church choir. I am really excited. I've sung the past two Sundays with them, and it was so much fun. I'm looking forward to doing that this semester. And lastly, I am continuing with my other physical activities. Specifically, Zumba on Mondays with some friends, Yogalates on Tuesday/Thursday mornings (partly to get a parking spot, and partly because I enjoy it), and I am still training for a 5k. I am running a 5k Color Run in October. At each kilometer along the way they throw a different color on you so at the end you're a rainbow! My goal is to run the entire 5k in less than 36 minutes (which is a little bit faster than a 12 minute mile).

So that's my life! It's a good one so far. College football begins on Saturday, and I am very excited about that. Go Rebs!Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-69525264896099198762012-07-15T16:08:00.000-05:002012-07-15T16:08:27.084-05:00Charleston with the CharlesHello friends and family.

I know, it's been a long time. I am absolutely horrible at writing in this thing, but I do try.

So on June 29th I left for vacation. I was invited to go to Charleston, South Carolina with my boyfriend and his family. I was a little nervous, of course. I mean a week with my boyfriend's family. I have done that before in undergrad and it didn't really end so well... I was excited as well though.

The first weekend I spent in Atlanta visiting my college friend Stephanie. I got to see her new (to me at least) house that she is renting with her roommates. It's really nice. She has the two smaller bedrooms with a bathroom in between. We spent Friday night at a Braves game, which they lost, but ended in fireworks. Saturday we went to The World of Coke which was a lot of fun. I tried several coke products from around the world (don't ever try the Italian product, Beverly). Then we hit up The Varsity, a restaurant that can only be found in Georgia. That night we went to Stone Mountain Park to see the laser light show. We brought a picnic dinner and just hung out there for a few hours waiting for it to start. It was a lot of fun.

The next morning, I left to meet Kevin at his parents' house in Eatonton. After meeting up there, we hit the road to Charleston. We actually stayed on the Isle of Palms, which is 20 minutes from downtown Charleston. We stayed at the Wild Dunes resort in a 2 bedroom, loft bedroom, 2.5 bath. It was Kevin, myself, his mom and dad, and his sister, brother-in-law, and 2 year old niece. Sunday night we ate dinner, and then went to the beach for 20 minutes before a storm blew in. Then Kevin, myself, his sister Katie, and brother-in-law Josh went out for drinks on Sullivan's Island, which was 15 minutes from where we were staying. We hit up a small pub, and the guy they had singing was pretty good. We all had a good time.

Monday we went to the beach for 3 or 4 hours. That afternoon Kevin and I went into town to check out the market while Claire (his niece) took a nap. We went to the Grand Pavilion that night for some ice cream and to watch the sun set.
Wednesday was the 4th of July. Kevin, his dad, and Josh all went to play 18 holes of golf that morning and into the afternoon. Kevin's mom, Katie, Claire, and I all went to the beach. When Claire and Katie went back for Claire's nap, we stayed at the beach. Kevin's great Aunt is the City Manager of the Isle of Palms and had arranged for a fly over from some military planes across over the beach, and so she came out to see that with her husband. They brought some food as well. That evening, we went over to their house to have dinner. There was burgers, hotdogs, BBQ, and Brunswick stew (a dish that Kevin's mom makes). They were so nice, and such great hosts. His great even invited us down to the pier where they were setting off the fireworks that night. It was so cool being that close.
Friday we all went into Charleston again. Kevin and I went out to Fort Sumter, which was pretty awesome. Also, if I didn't know how South Carolina started the civil war before then, I sure do now. It was explained to me at least 3 times. :) After that, we went to the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier, and explore it. It was pretty cool as well. That night all of us, including Kevin's great aunt and uncle, went out for one last dinner together. We ate at a restaurant down by the marina. I had almond encrusted flounder, and it was sooooooooooo good. I ate all of it and wanted more. After dinner we went out on the boat again.
Saturday we all headed back, but before Kevin and I did, we went to the Battery. It was pretty nice, and the houses around there date back to the colonial time period and some are still owned by the same family that built it! We headed back to his parents' house afterwards, and I spent the night there. The next morning, I got up and headed back to Memphis (hitting Oxford to pick up my mail on the way).
I had such an amazing time. And I think it's safe to say that his family is pretty ok with me (although I'm pretty sure they liked me before this too). It was never awkward, and I just felt like part of the family. I'm so glad I got to go.

Also, I got my birthday present from Kevin early, a Keruig Machine. Basically, a coffee maker that makes single serving sizes. (see below)
Anyways, I'll try and update again before the end of the summer. I can't believe there's only a month left. :(

Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-59658412856267167432012-05-21T16:38:00.001-05:002012-05-21T18:26:35.774-05:00Summer PlansOk, I know it's been a while. But in my defense, it's been a little busy.

My 2L year is done, and grades are due out tonight (why at 10pm is beyond me, at least make it 5 or 6).

I survived my 3 finals (Family Law, Civil Procedure II, and Secured Transactions). I also got my paper turned in for my space law class. It was about how the new Patent law in America will affect space inventions. The short version is, they don't. Woo! a 13 page paper that can be summer up in 3 words!!! Yeah, it was rough trying to put as much space stuff in there as possible.

This summer I'll be interning at one of the courts downtown in Memphis. I'll be in circuit court, which I think will be fun. I already had to figure out a wrongful death suit, which took a while because the lawyers did not write enough information and I had no clue what "in camera" meant (for you reference, it means produced to the judge only so they can make a ruling on the evidence). I'll be working there Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons and then Friday mornings.

This summer I'll also be coaching the Rhodes Swim team with my mom. I'll be doing that Mon-Thurs mornings and Thursday nights. I'm really excited for that and getting to spend time at the pool and work with the kids. I'll also be getting paid, which is always nice.

So I am really bad about watching what I eat at school. Usually because I'm too stressed or busy to care what I eat or go work out. I haven't gone up to my pre-law school weight, but I'm back up higher than I want to be. I'm going on vacation for the week of Fourth of July, which is 6 weeks away. I am determined to lose some where between 10 and 15 pounds between now and then. I would like to get down where I want and then maintain it.

I actually did really well last week, and then I went a little too crazy this weekend, but there was a lot of stuff going on. I know, I know, I shouldn't make excuses.

It's a good goal, but it will be a little difficult I am sure. I'm putting it on here, because I'm hoping it will keep me honest and get some people to keep me honest as well. So people, if you see me or follow me, ask me how it's going and if I'm keeping to it. Hopefully once I get on a schedule with jobs and such, things will be a lot easier. Things are always easier when I'm on a schedule. I hope that doesn't make me boring.

This week is another somewhat down week. I worked this morning and I'm working Thursday, and that's it. Starting next Tuesday swim team and my normal intern schedule will begin.

I hope everyone has a good summer, I plan to (considering it's my last one before the real world).Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-53946485380831738992012-01-27T16:38:00.003-06:002012-01-27T17:00:48.993-06:00These.... are spirit fingers!Pardon the reference to "Bring it On" in the title, it just seems appropriate.

So my life, it's been quite a whirlwind. I started back to school three weeks ago and this was the first week I haven't felt stressed to the max, which is nice. It was a pretty normal week as far as classes go. I am not always the best at paying attention in class, especially when professors go off on tangents (which happens more often than not, sorry to any professors who might stumble upon this post), but I am determined to pay attention in Civil Procedure II each class period, all class period. This is mainly b/c that class of 19 students is full of my classes top ranked students. Literally. About half that class amjured (got the best grade) in one of their classes last semester. It's a little nerve wracking, and if nothing else, if I end up at the bottom of the curve in this class it will not be from lack of trying (not that that particular problem has ever been an issue for me, but you know what I mean).

The best part about this week is that ballet started up again! Last fall I started taking adult ballet classes once a week with a law school friend of mine who teaches them. I loved it! It was something completely different, it was a pretty good work out, and it was a great way to just escape law school for an hour. We're going to be learning some actual routines this semester, and I'm pretty excited about that. I also did two dance company workshops this week. The local dance company "Hinge" is having tryouts this week, and to prepare they offered workshops Wed and Thurs to teach the combinations that would be used in tryouts. Now, i'm not trying out, but my friend (who teaches the ballet class and is a part of Hinge) invited me to come and do the dances.

Now, I'm not going to say I was amazing or the best one there. Not even by a long shot, but I can honestly say that I hung with those girls who had been dancing for years! I kept up, I stayed on beat, I could do all the moves, and I looked half decent doing them! If you had told me 6 mo. ago that I would have been able to do that after one day a week of dance for a semester, I would have laughed at you. It was a great feeling though. I'm not sure I'll ever get to the point where some of those girls are, but I absolutely love dancing, and I will continue to do it for the foreseeable future (or at least through law school). I think I love it almost as much as I love softball, and for those who know me, that's a lot. :)

Another big thing this week, was that I signed up for the Spring Moot Court competition. This time around it is a mock trial. We got the problem yesterday evening, and we begin in a week. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have doubts about doing this. I literally sat, with check in hand, for about 10 minutes after the end of the informational session debating on whether to turn it in. However, in the end, I decided to go ahead and enter the competition if for no other reason than practice.

The last big thing that happened this week (and last week) is very exciting. Last week I sent out over 25 copies of my resume to Memphis judges seeking an internship for the summer, and although my first couple responses were not very promising, I've gotten a few responses offering me unpaid internships, which is fine because I will be living at home. So I'm moving forward with those, and with any luck I'll have a for sure job/internship for the summer. :)

That's all from here! Hope everyone's well. I'll update again soon.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-72346194986646798422012-01-13T16:58:00.002-06:002012-01-13T17:28:40.507-06:00Back to School I GoWell, I have survived my first week back to school. I think it's going to be a pretty good semester as far as classes go. I've got Family Law with Professor Bell who is highly respected in the family law realm in MS. Secured Transactions, which is a business law class. Civil Procedure II which is a very practical class since it teaches you how to actually file a lawsuit. US Space Law with the foremost professor on Space Law. Ole Miss has the most respected (and one of the few) Space Law programs. Last, but not least I am taking Federal Trial practice which is a class on how to conduct a trial.

Overall, it will be a very informative and practical semester. However, my schedule leaves me somewhat wanting, mainly because the only days that are the same are Mondays and Wednesdays, and that is somewhat annoying, but oh well. Here is my schedule:

Monday - Family Law 9:30-11 and Secured Transactions 3-4:30
Tuesday - Civ Pro II 9:30-11; Space Law 12:30-2; and Federal Trial Practice 2-5
Wednesday - Family Law 9:30-11 and Secured Transactions 3-4:30
Thursday - Space Law 12:30-2
Friday - Civ Pro II 9:30-11

Like I said, a little random. This first week has been a little hectic because I've had to run errands and get my schedule/routine down. Luckily, I have a 3 day weekend to get caught back up (I'm already behind, how crazy is that?) and I'll be using it.

I have also begun sending off more resumes for summer internships. I know. I know. I should have done it over Christmas, and I did to an extent, but now the motivation is really there. So wish me luck, and if you know any lawyers/law firms that need a summer clerk let me know! :)Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-6111095937439633412011-12-15T15:12:00.003-06:002011-12-15T15:25:44.408-06:00Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand BREAK!I'm done! I made it through finals alive! It's a miracle! Ok, maybe not a miracle, but it's pretty darn awesome!

Last week I had finals on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. It was a stressful week, and I literally did not know what day it was. I just knew I had a final or not. After my Saturday final I took the afternoon and evening off and then all day Sunday as well. It was a nice little break. I got back to studying on Monday for my Wednesday, and last, final.

Yesterday after my final I went Christmas shopping and didn't find anything for my family, but I did find presents for my friends (progress?). I think I have an idea what I'm going to get the fam, but they're so hard to find presents for!

Anyways, I also went and saw The Muppets yesterday afternoon. That movie is awesome! I'm so glad there's a new Muppets movie out. Then I spent the rest of the evening doing absolutely nothing! :-D

Today I slept in (wonderful) and then cleaned my apartment. It's best to clean before you leave so when you come back it's a relief. My apartment is never as clean as right before I leave, I wonder why that is? :)

I'm getting ready to finish packing to head home for break. I'll be heading home tomorrow. Tonight is the end of the year/we survived finals/Christmas party. Last year it was a ton of fun, and I completely expect it to be just as good tonight.

Hope everyone has a good Holiday Season! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-10126511228070778012011-11-05T11:32:00.004-05:002011-11-05T12:15:02.999-05:00Another month down...Wow! I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving and almost finals! Where in the world did this semester go? I feel like I just got back from London when the riots were going on! This semester has been pretty busy. Let's see... I had the Moot Court Competition in September, and then October was a little less hectic. October and March are really down months for law students b/c you've gotten into your routine, and it's far enough away from finals that you don't need to do as much work.

Last weekend was Halloween, and that was a lot of fun. The 2Ls (the year I'm in) hosted our own party on Thursday night b/c a lot of people were going out of town for the weekend, and the Law School Halloween Party was on Saturday. So I got 2 Halloween parties in and successfully wore two different costumes. I was a ballerina on Thursday night and I dressed up like I was going to a masquerade on Saturday. Kevin was one of the Swamp People (which is a show on the history channel about gator hunters down in the bayou of Louisiana). I put up some pics below.

So now it's November, which means it's really time to start hunkering down and preparing for finals, which for me means making lots and lots of flash cards. This weekend not much is going on, and after last weekend, I am thankful for that. Next weekend I'm going to Georgia w/ Kevin to see the University of Georgia v. University of Auburn game. I'm really excited to go. I've seen Athens before, but not full of students tailgating and such. Kevin talks about all the good times he had there, so I'm excited to experience it myself, even if ever so slightly.

The following weekend it's the beginning of Thanksgiving break. This is something I used to look forward to, but now it's just a week off to study. *sigh* Oh well. It'll be nice to go home. There's a home football game on that Saturday, and I'll probably go home after that. After my week off I've got a week of classes and then it's 2 weeks of finals and then Christmas break. Can you believe it's so close???

So the other thing that's been going on this semester is that I've been taking adult ballet classes. It's a good way to just get away from law school for an hour during the week. I've enjoyed it a lot, and of course I've learned some ballet, which is always nice. :) So because I've been taking these classes, I now get to participate in this years production of The Nutcracker! I'm just in the very beginning in the party scene, and then I help wrangle the kids backstage through the rest of the performance. There's 2 shows: Dec. 3 and 4. Of course, this is the ballet school's performance, so it's not exactly like we used to see in Tulsa, but still... it's the Nutcracker!

That's what has been going on around here though. Still just taking it one day at a time. This semester has been pretty awesome. Here's some Halloween pics:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPJ3ffcROg4sxGJpBhifmcx6oqxfZ4lg7RMlTRpotxXbW_X5CIXVm3geP1bKcQKHQiEES8lXHTtc87E3WNY2TTxUBAsTi96P_aS99LmularAEYsN3KKzCddTebXayCKjjoFji06H9TIsDi/s320/Fall+076.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5671560066761461426" />

This is me at the first party as a ballerina with my friend Ryan who was the prince of darkness.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRpJyXEkDz7ZmxDah0LgCInK0jjf510voaeM-FcCjNdtQDXbK9i78EL-g82ra3E-EPyxaBuIXRYa2KS-jPPu25ziUNEBwjZ7YiHsVoNSJgQkcWWS8HRD7fqV_6ZxDEbsTSxZkVvxp5RZH/s320/Fall+111.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5671560067668280690" />

This is me at the second party. Law school is just a little time consuming. :)

So the first half of the semester has gone well. I've kept up on my reading, and I'm even starting my flash cards for finals early (I'm so proud of myself)! The first week was pretty tame, just getting used to being back in school. The second week began a month long stress fest. It was the moot court competition. The first two weeks we had to write a brief, which is essentially a 20 page paper discussing why your side should win. The two sides were the gov't and a drug company named Zydeco. I was the gov't. The worst part is, your not allowed to talk to anyone else (whether they're in the competition or not), which was more frustrating to me than actually writing the brief. After we turned in the brief we had a week to work on our oral arguments. We had to make essentially a 20 min. speech for both sides. But while we talk, the judges can interrupt us and ask us questions about the issues. So the fourth week it was time for oral arguments, we had to do two. I argued first for the gov't on Monday, and then on Wednesday, I had to switch sides and argue for Zydeco. Unfortunately, after all this stress and work, I did not make the team. I'm not super surprised, but I am very surprised at some of the people who did make it, and that pissed me off more than not making it. Oh well, it's in the past.

After that I felt it weird to have extra time in my day, and I felt guilty, so I started making flash cards for finals. The past two weeks have been pretty low key, which I love. The other thing that goes on in the fall is of course, football! We've had about 4 home games, and it's amazing. You go out to the grove, which is this big grassy area, and you tailgate (watch tv, eat food, hang with friends). It's the most fun thing about Oxford in my opinion. :)

Mom and Chels came up this weekend so they could participate in a prospective student day at Ole Miss. I think they both enjoyed it, and I enjoyed having them here. Chels was here two weeks ago for the Ole Miss v. University of Georgia football game, and she'll be back in 2 more weeks for the Arkansas university v. Ole Miss game. Mom wanted to come, but she has a swim meet that day.

Plans for the rest of the semester for me include a Fall Fun event this coming Friday, a Halloween Party in a few weeks, more football games, and continuing to study for finals. Sounds like fun right? As much as I'm ready for the semester to be over, school seems to be going by much too fast for my liking.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-68164020455810858082011-09-02T08:23:00.002-05:002011-09-02T08:42:43.276-05:00A new school yearSo I'm finishing my second week of my 2L year and I have to say the old adage is true: "Your 1L year they scare you to death. Your 2L year they work you to death. And your 3L year they bore you to death." Well so far years 1 and 2 have proven true... Kind of can't wait for the 3L year right now.

So this year started off with a bang. I moved in a week early so I could get settled and unpacked in my new place, and I'm very happy with how it all turned out. I have my own space (with lots of storage, which is good b/c I have a lot of stuff. Did I mention I filled 3 closets w/ clothes?) that's the perfect size for me. I can make it as dirty/messy or as clean as I want. It's kind of nice.

The first week was filled w/ "welcome back to law school now let's get to work" classes. This year I My schedule looks something like this:
Mon and Wed - Legal Profession (Ethics) from 8-9:20
Mon and Wed - Jurisprudence (Philosophy) from 9:30-10:50
Mon, Wed, and Fri - Evidence from 1:30-2:50 (M/W) and 12:30-1:50 (F)
Tues and Thurs - Criminal Procedure I (what police are allowed to do) from 8-9:20
Tues and Thurs - Entertainment Law from 2-3:20

I rearranged my schedule a little bit from what it originally was (I had Income tax instead of entertainment law), but this works out better for me. This past Monday was the beginning of the Moot Court competition. This is one of two competitions I can enter in order to get on the Moot Court team. Moot Court is a combination of Mock Trial and Appellate arguing (it would take way to long to explain what those are on here, but essentially it's like different types of trial practice). I have two weeks to write a 25 page brief and then I have to do two 20 minute oral arguments for each side. The current board members grade it. They gave us an 18 page problem that contains two opinions of past decisions. We have to read through the problem, research the problem, and then write a paper. You only write your brief for one side though (which means as I do research for my side, I also need to do research for the other side too). So this week in all my spare time I've been researching cases for this problem. Today I'm finishing my research and writing an outline so come Sunday I can start writing.

What makes this difficult is I still have reading to do for my 5 classes, and all my clubs are having their beginning of the year meetings, and I need to work on my resume and cover letters so I can start applying for jobs/internships over the next month, and to top it all off, I developed a cold this week which essentially incapacitated me for a day. On the bright side, I got ahead in a lot of my reading last week so I wouldn't feel guilty not reading a day or two this week or next. I've also gotten caught up on my research from earlier this week. So as soon as I get the rest of this research done and outline written I will be free until Sunday.

Which basically brings me to this weekend. College football has returned!!!!! Ole Miss' first game is against BYU (Brigham Young University). This should be interesting in more than one way. The main reason of course being the strictness of BYU's policies and the lack there of at Ole Miss. The Grove (where tailgating is held) is a different type of experience, and one where the alcohol and sodas tend to runneth over. Of course we all dress up for the football games too. And, since we're in MS, the weather has decided it will give BYU a warm (very warm) welcome. I hope they like 95 degree weather that feels like 100 (the game kicks off at 3:45).

Football = my favorite time of the year!!!

Anyways, that's all from here (pretty much). Hope everyone's well. Have a good weekend.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-82689274926604996922011-08-20T16:58:00.003-05:002011-08-20T17:09:30.717-05:00New Place<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz5Ztg5fEFD-GkSoTqaEQi9w38TWMiwQNnCY5edyKVRbR3NdiJUMvCDb6LeLqs-p19Fj1UOoqw-PMZqtSNS9-uAUWWTrxKypLo_Ubv7TVe0qgRqTB3-HV2RDCHr9DMHzkvNK9s0XYFA1RF/s320/New+Place+057.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643063055356504210" />

So my last few days at Cambridge were spent mostly studying, but it paid off. I've gotten 2 of 3 grades back and they are an A and a B+. Wednesday after our last final I went and packed up my room. The general goal was just to get everything in suitcases, which of course made my big suitcase quite heavy. :) That afternoon I met up with Jesse and we grabbed a few beers/ciders and a magazine and headed to the park to soak up the beautiful weather (75 and sunny). It was a great afternoon. That evening was the farewell dinner. It was pretty good actually. Both Czarnetsky (Ole Miss prof) and Hopkins (Cambridge prof) made speeches. All the professors and their families were there. It was a good time all around. After dinner we headed to the college bar for last night of frivolity, and many of the professors joined us which was fun. And when that closed we hit the town in Cambridge. It was a good way to end our stay there.

Thursday we had to be out of our rooms by noon, and a few of us caught the train to London together, and separated once we were there. While pulling my suitcase along the streets of London though I discovered that not only was my suit case broken, but one of the wheels was broken as well, which made it much more like dragging than pulling. Kevin was kind enough to pull my ridiculously heavy bag to the hostel for me. I stayed at Queen Mary, a University of London Campus in East London. It was really nice actually. That afternoon, Kevin and I went to the Great Britain Beer Festival. We had a lot of fun doing that. After dinner, Kevin headed to the airport where he was staying because he had an early flight in the morning.

Friday I got up and did quite a few things. I went to the Cabinet War Rooms where Churchill ran WWII from. It was amazing. It is pretty much exactly as it was left. It looks as though on the last day they left, and the next day, the museum people came and put glass up and it became a museum. After that, I walked down to Buckingham Palace because I was near there, and then back towards Big Ben. For lunch I went to one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. It wasn't one of his more famous ones. It is called York & Albany. It was still really good food though. After lunch I walked through Regent's Park because it was another gorgeous day. After that I went to M&M World, which is actually just a big M&M Store, but it's still pretty cool. That night I met some friends for dinner in Covent Garden.

Saturday I went to Dover for the day. I went and saw the white cliffs and the castle. It was also very interesting. It was very cloudy and started raining as I walked back to the train station later that afternoon, but other than that it was nice. I saw the underground tunnels used in WWII, a lot of old guns and tanks, and then of course the castle. I went in the castle and up to the top. I enjoyed it quite a bit. After that I headed back into London, and went to the Globe to get tickets for whatever show was playing that night. It ended up being a show called The Globe Mysteries. It was a play that took people through Bible from creation to Judgment Day. It was written in Old English, and a lot of the costumes were modern (it was kind of like watching Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio). It was really good though, and very well performed. There were some humorous parts in it, which made it that much more enjoyable to watch. I was just going to pay 5 pounds and stand, but the weather had said it was supposed to rain, and although it didn't look like rain, I didn't want to risk it. And it did rain while the show was performed.

On Sunday I got up and was supposed to meet some friends that afternoon to go to Camden Market, but we ended up not being able to, so I went shopping on Oxford Circus that afternoon. It rained a lot on Sunday, but luckily it only rained when I was in the shops looking around. :) I went to dinner at a pub that night (I figured it'd be my last time for a while), and after that headed back to my room so I could repack everything for tomorrow. I had to be out of my room by 7:30/7:45 that morning because they were going to begin refurbishing the room I was staying in. I was supposed to be in a different room on the 4th floor, but as there were no elevators and my suitcases were heavy and one was broken, I asked to be moved, and that was the condition of my moving, which was fine with me.

So on Monday I got up early, and put my luggage in storage and headed out for the day. I went to Windsor Castle that day. I figured I'd spend 2 hours there (tops) and be done; then I could get back into town and get out to my hotel with lots of time to relax. Yeah... about that... :) I ended up spending 4 hours there. I did the audio tour, as well as a guided tour (the guided tour was actually a private one because I was the only one who showed up for that time). I went into the State Apartments and those were gorgeous. Then I went up to the top of the Round Tower and got some great views of the area. After that I went and looked around St. George's Chapel before heading back to London. I ended up not getting back to the luggage storage until after 4.

I had decided that instead of taking my suitcase down 50 some odd stairs to the tube, I would take the bus to King's Cross and catch the tube out to Heathrow from there (there's elevators at that tube station). I figured out the bus I needed stopped right outside the Queen Mary, so it worked out perfectly. I did not anticipate a 1 hour bus ride, or having to stand in line for a half hour at King's Cross to get a tube ticket. So I finally got on the tube, got to Heathrow and took the shuttle from there to my hotel. I ended up not even getting to my room until after 8. I still had to repack everything and take a shower. I had to be up at 6 the next morning too, so I was trying to get to bed early (that didn't happen). So I finally climbed into bed sometime after 11.

Tuesday I got up early and headed to the airport. I was determined to get there 3 hours early because it's Heathrow and you never know what's going to happen. It's a good thing I did too, because I ended up at the wrong terminal. My first flight was supposedly with BMI (which is terminal 1), but I had to go check in with Continental (in terminal 4). And then of course I had to stand in line for an hour or so to check in and go through security. Once through I had about an hour and a half to kill, so I grabbed some breakfast. Got on the plane, and had a smooth trip to Newark. However, when I got to Newark, I found out my flight at 4:29 to Memphis had been cancelled (noooooooooo!!!!!!). So I had to go to the transfer desk and get a new flight so they put me on a flight to Chicago at 4, and then I was to catch a flight to Memphis from there. So I was like, well, at least I'll get home today. While in Newark I found out that one of my cousins was there on a layover waiting for his flight as well, in the same concourse even! Go figure. So we met up for a few. I ended up getting home about 2 hours later than planned, and by the time I went to bed I had been up for over 22 hours (go me).

So I'm moving back to Oxford on Monday, so this week is basically being spent running errands and getting everything done that I need to get done. Woo hoo. :)

So that's all from here. It was a great summer. I hope y'all enjoyed reading about it as much I enjoyed experiencing it. :) I'll update again sometime soon.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-77076693151023996502011-07-30T07:02:00.002-05:002011-07-30T07:19:02.308-05:00Last full week in Cambridge :(So, my time here is rapidly coming to a close (I am not too happy about this). Everyone's trying to get in things they haven't had a chance to do. For me that includes punting in the Cam and maybe a Shakespeare Festival play. For others it means jumping into the Cam and streaking across Downing College's lawn. :) I am sad to see it end.

This week I had fewer classes each day, which is another sign that not only is it coming to an end, but now I have finals (or as a friend back in the States put it, an annoying period that puts a damper on our socializing and drinking). Monday I had 3 classes, Tuesday I had 2, Wednesday 1, and Thursday none. I did however, put that extra time to good use. I got all my notes organized (since two of my three exams are open note/open book) and got them printed off so I don't have to drag my laptop with me when I want to study.

Tuesday night I did a whiskey tasting. We had 10 different ones for 15 pounds. Not too bad. It was a lot of fun, but I still don't like whiskey (sorry dad). I'm sure the guys around me enjoyed the faces I was making, lol. However, I drank them all neat (no water for this chick) so I consider that an accomplishment on my end.

Wednesday night I went out with Jesse and we studied international law over a few pints. It was actually a really good study tactic because we were a little more relaxed. :)

Thursday it was absolutely gorgeous here. I mean, 72 degrees, the sun was shining! Definitely not a day you want to be stuck inside on. So Kevin, Jesse, and I went and got a picnic lunch (sandwich, crisps, and a drink for 3 pounds) and then headed to the river to go punting. We went on a guided tour instead of trying to figure it out for ourselves though. I think it was worth it. Then, since it was gorgeous, we went and hung out in one of the many many parks here in Cambridge for the afternoon. It was a lot of fun. I was supposed to do a wine tasting that night, but since I hadn't really studied, and had been out the previous two nights I went ahead and gave up my spot.

Friday the weather was back to cloudy and 65 (really cold for England this time of the year) so I did my studying at Starbucks for the afternoon. That night a bunch of us went out to a really nice meal at a restaurant around the corner. It was one of those 2 hour affairs. It was fun getting dressed up and going out though. I think everyone had fun. :) After dinner we all headed to the college bar and continued our fun evening there. It was a great evening all around.

Overall, it has been a good week. About half studying, half fun. I'll be sad to see it be done. I will say I'm looking forward to a few things when I get back to the States (and the heat is not one of them). Finals start on Monday. I have one each day M, T, W. The farewell dinner is on Wed night, and then it'll be off to London for a long weekend. I found out last night that there's a beer festival going on in London this week, Tuesday - Sunday, so I'm sure Kevin and I will make a stop there on Thursday before he heads to the airport to go home.

As for me, I plan to hit up a show or two, go to M&M World and the Churchill War Rooms. I'd also like to go to Camden Market, and maybe back to Greenwich. We'll see.

Anyways, that's all for now. I'll try and update sometime next week, but if I don't, I'll update when I get back to the States! Have a good week everyone!Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-37851111057290291522011-07-24T06:05:00.002-05:002011-07-24T07:04:51.039-05:00Awesome Birthday WeekendSo not much out of the ordinary happened last week. For the most part it was pretty low key: school, study, dinner, hang out, sleep, repeat. :)

On Wednesday night almost everyone went to the college bar, and after that, most of us headed off to a club to go dancing, but there was such confusion as to what we were doing and where we were going that a few of us left before anyone actually made up their mind (apparently everyone ended up at a foam party until about 2am, I'm kind of glad I left). When I got back I went by Kevin's room (he's not really into dancing in small spaces w/ lots of people, but then again, I don't know too many guys who are into that) because he had my key so he could go pick up his laundry while we went out. Since it was midnight he gave my birthday present. It is a silver necklace w/ a ruby pendant (my birth stone). It's beautiful, and I absolutely love it. :)

So obviously, Thursday was my birthday. I didn't really advertise it though b/c I didn't want it to be a big thing. I just wanted it to be pretty low key. Most people looked on facebook and saw, and it was nice to get so many "happy birthdays" on my wall and in class. :) Like I said, I wanted a pretty low key evening, so I just invited about 8 people out for dinner and drinks. The cider festival is going on at Wetherspoons around England, and so we ate there for the cider, cheap food, and cheap drinks. Plus it was curry night, and pretty much everyone I know beside me likes curry. Lol. We chilled there for about 2 hours and then headed to another local pub called The Free Press and had a few drinks there. Oh, but before we left Wetherspoons, my friend Jesse grabbed some of the balloons that were everywhere and tied them to my wrist. It made me smile. :) At The Free Press, it was again very chill, we just hung out talked, and a few drinks. We left about 10:30 because we all had to be up the next morning for a bus ride to London (another reason i didn't want it to be a crazy night). As we left, two of my 3 balloons were drained by my friends for their helium, and the third one I used as my "birthday candle" and I released it and made a wish. We'll see if it comes true.

So Friday, as I said, we all had to be up for a bus ride to London. We did something called "Legal London" and it was pretty awesome. So we loaded the bus and left about 9, getting into London by 11. We unloaded, and headed to Middle Temple. London has 4 Inns of Courts: Middle Temple, Inner Temple, Lincoln's Inn, and Gray's Inn. We saw 3 of them. I'm going to try and explain this as best I can, so bear with me. When you practice law in England, you either become a barrister or solicitor, and if you become a barrister, you have to join one of the Inns. You do this after you complete your undergrad (I believe) and before you do any more education. The Inn you join helps pay for your education, and you have to dues. As a student you're also required to attend 12 dinners within the year. Each Inn has their own dining halls, and a lot of barristers have their offices there, and it's literally just down the street from the Royal Courts of Justice. I'm sure I've left something out, but you get the gist.

So the first thing we did upon arriving at Middle Temple was to get a tour of Temple Church, and for any of you who have read the Da Vinici Code, this will be familiar, If you're not, check out this page for some back history: . It was a pretty cool church, and it is shared by Middle and Inner temple. The church was built by the Knights Templar too. In 1608, after many years of renting the land from the monarchy, King James I gave the land out right to the two temples forever in return for their loyalty. After a tour of the church, we got a tour of Middle Temple, and then attended a reception looking down into the dining hall (I had sherry for the first time at this reception. Not something I plan on drinking again). After the reception we were led down to the dining hall and served a 3 course meal (I had cold tomato and basil soup, trout w/ vegetables (although the trout looked like salmon), and strawberries and cream and coffee for dessert. It was all pretty good). I'm just going to say it, the ABA, needs to have something similar to these Inns of Court, b/c they're amazing. Even though the normal members didn't get served, it was still just an amazing room and an amazing opportunity. It would take entirely too long to explain everything about this system to you though, so I won't. :) After lunch we took a "Legal tour" of London. We saw two more Inns, the Royal Courts of Justice (we even got to peak into a few of the court rooms and see everyone in their robes and wigs), and then we went past a shop that actually makes the official robes and wigs for judges and barristers. Yes, judges and barristers still where the robes and wigs, although, now it's just in the Criminal courts, they have been done away with (mostly) in the Civil courts.

After that, we were free to go our own way, or get back on the bus and come back to Cambridge. I think only two or three people came back to Cambridge. Jesse, Kevin, and I had booked a hostel near King's Cross so we went there, checked in, and changed out of our suits. After that we went down to Saint Paul's, walked across Millennium Bridge, and then down along the Thames. For dinner we grabbed some of the stand food and some ice cream, and then we headed to the London Eye. We got Fast Track passes (which was totally worth the extra 10 pounds b/c the line was ridiculous even at 8pm) and basically got on in about 10 minutes as opposed to over an hour. After that we went to the other side of the Thames and went on a boat/bar. I had some pumpkin soup (which tastes nothing like any pumpkin I've had before, but I think that's b/c when I have pumpkin, it's been sweetened), and hung out there until about 11 and then headed back to the hostel. We ended up being split up into two rooms, I was not happy about this considering I had booked us all together, which kind of sucked, but we were only there for sleeping, so it wasn't too bad. Also, the hostel was in the middle of London, literally a block away from Kings Cross, so it was kind of noisy. Oh well. You pay for convenience sometimes.

Saturday we got up and had breakfast at the hostel (it was free, so why not), and then headed to Greenwich Park. Part of the park is going to be used for the Olympics, so they had a big chunk blocked off, but it was still very pretty. We went up to the Royal Observatory and saw the Prime Meridian, and looked in the free museums up there and then headed back into town. They're rebuilding the Cutty Sark (which was badly damaged by a fire a few years ago) and it should be open next year sometime. We went into an old sweet shop and got some chocolate. Then we went to Greenwich market. We ended up eating there because they had so many food stands, and it wasn't just fish and chips. They had crepes, Thai food, Mexican, Ethiopian, and specialty stands. I ended up with some red sausages in ciabatta bread w/ green leaves (it wasn't lettuce) and to drink I had some Horchata (which is kind of like rice milk, but w/ a hazelnut flavor). Kevin got Thai food, and Jesse got essentially a Philly Cheese Steak. After lunch we headed back into London and went to the Imperial War Museum. P.S. This museum used to be an Insane Asylum and the Victorian people (I'm pretty sure that's when this was) used to get dressed up and go there, peer into the cells of the insane people, and watch them in there; it was their entertainment. It is now a museum though, and a pretty interesting one at that. Although, there's not much in there from before WWI which seems kind of strange.

After the museum, we went back to the hostel, where we had left our bags, got changed for the theater that night, went to Kings Cross to store our bags for another few hours, and then headed to Piccadilly Circus. We grabbed dinner at a pub just off Haymarket St and then headed to Her Majesty's Theater to see The Phantom of the Opera. When I was looking for tickets about a week and a half ago, a lot of the shows for Saturday night had already sold out, or the three of us would not be sitting together. Both Jesse and Kevin wanted to see Phantom, and I loved it so much last summer, I had no qualms w/ seeing it again. We sat pretty much at the very back of the balcony, but it was still pretty cool. I know they both enjoyed it a lot. After the show, we had to hustle back to King's Cross, b/c the luggage storage place closed at 11, and the show ended at 10. We were leaving nothing to chance. So we were rude Americans and ducked out as the curtain went down before they all came to take their bows. We got to the store about 10:30, and after we grabbed our bags went to go get our train tickets back to Cambridge. We ended up catching the "Express" train, or rather, the one that doesn't make 50 stops, but goes via Cambridge. Unfortunately, so did everyone else. There was standing room only on that train. Luckily, we all got seats so we didn't have to stand for the 45 min ride back to Cambridge.

I had a blast this birthday. It could be one of my favorites that's for sure. Somehow, I don't think next year's will be quite as exciting, but it will be on a Saturday, so we'll see. :) I can't believe that my time here is almost up. My birthday has always signaled the end of summer, so it's a little bitter-sweet, but this time it also signals that it's time to go home. I've got two more full weeks here. This week is the last week of classes, and then next week is finals and the farewell dinner. We have to be out of our rooms by noon on the 4th of August, and most people are leaving on the 5th. :( I'll be around until the 9th in London. I've already got my hostel booked, and I've already made mental notes of things I'd like to do while I'm there (such as eating at one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants). There will still be a few people around, so I'm going to top up my phone (it's a month by month phone) so I'll still be able to get a hold of people, and hang out with them some and do my own thing a little as well. I've stayed under budget very well this summer, so I'll have a little bit of wiggle room while I'm in London, so I might take a day trip or two, we'll see. Anyways. That's it from here. Hope you all are well.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-361586055024450592011-07-19T09:09:00.004-05:002011-07-19T09:49:14.666-05:00Pics from Switzerland<img style="display:block; And I probably go into way too much detail, but oh well. Enjoy!

So Thursday we headed off to Gatwick, and got there and got on the plane, AND got to Zurich w/o any problems. It was amazing! When we got off the plane, Kevin’s friend Claudio was waiting for us. He took us to dinner at this fondue restaurant. Apparently the Swiss are really big into fondue. It was really good! Kevin and I split a 4 cheese, bacon, and plum brandy sauce fondue pot. We just dipped bread in it, but it was still really good. After that we headed back to Claudio’s place where we stayed the night. He has a really nice apartment.

Now, before I go any further, I want to say that Claudio is in a wheelchair and has deformed hands. So he has something called a Swiss-Track that attaches to the wheelchair and pulls him so he doesn’t have to push himself everywhere. For all of those who ever complained that the US isn’t very handicapped accessible and people are closed minded, you need to come to Switzerland. It’s ridiculous! I’m thankful that my big brother Sam was rehabilitated in the best place possible and hasn’t had too many difficulties getting around (I know he’s had some). On Friday we got up and headed to the train station to head to Claudio’s parents’ house and we had to change lines at one point. Well one guy was so mad that we made the train 2 minutes late he basically told Claudio that if he couldn’t handle the equipment then he needed to stop being so lazy and push himself. What the heck?!?!?! Who says that?!?!?! People are idiots! It is such a pain for him to get around almost anywhere as well. Only half the places we went were handicapped accessible. Switzerland needs to step it up! *steps of soapbox*

Anyways, so on Friday we headed to a small town in Switzerland nestled in the Alps where Claudio grew up and where his parents still live. We got there around 1 and headed to his house where his mom had made us a 3-course meal for lunch! I kid you not. We had homemade vegetable soup first, a traditional Swiss meal called canus (pronounced ka-noose) and salad, and then for dessert we had chocolate mousse. After that very filling lunch we headed off to a small town called Flims where they have a microbrewery. We started with a walk somewhat into/near the Alps. It was almost like we were walking right between them. We walked about an hour in and out to a platform where we got some breath-taking views (b/c the ones we saw on the way up weren’t enough). Afterwards, we went to the brewery and tasted the local brew. It was very good. After that, we came back and Claudio’s mom had cooked us this huge dinner. His dad grilled some meat too. So we had a vegetable medley, potatoes, rice, and about 3 types of meat. They kept giving us more food! And for dessert we had flan. It was amazing. So good! Then we turned in early because on Saturday we had to be up at 6 in order to catch a 7am train!

So Saturday we got up quite early, and Claudio’s mom was already up and had bread, cheese, ham, butter, jam, tea, and juice out for us to eat. Claudio’s dad had worked from 8pm to 4am, but he too was up and ready to take us to the train station. They were two of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I had so much fun there. So we caught the early train into Chur, and then from there boarded a panoramic train (the windows were literally from about 3 ft off the ground all the way up the side of the train and onto the roof) which took us through the Alps from the middle of Switzerland down to Tirano, Italy. It was a beautiful train ride. I have so many pictures it is ridiculous. We went to about 2,253 meters above sea level at one point. We had about an hour in Italy. So, of course, we ate pasta, pizza, and gelato!!! :-D

After lunch we boarded a bus from Tirano, Italy to Lagano, Switzerland. It was a nice bus ride, and this time, instead of mountains, we saw several vineyards. When we got to Lagano we went and checked into our hotel (which Claudio’s parents put us up in as a thanks to Kevin for all he did while Claudio was at Georgia). It was a beautiful hotel as well. Lagano is on a lake, and this hotel was literally, step out of it and there’s the lake. That night we went and had more pizza and pasta for dinner. Switzerland has 4 official languages: German, French, Italian, and Rumantsch. So where Claudio’s parents are it’s the later, and in Lagano it was Italian (hence the Pasta and pizza for dinner). I think in the west it’s probably French, and pretty much everywhere else is German. I was happy that I got to break out my rusty Italian/Spanish. Also, things in Switzerland = SOOOOO EXPENSIVE!!!!! Anyways, after dinner we went for a walk along the water, and then headed back to the hotel for somewhat of an early evening since Sunday was going to be a long day.

So Sunday we got up and had a great continental breakfast: eggs, bacon (the real kind), sausage, fruit, croissants, bread, cheese, meet, cereal, juice, tea, coffee, etc… That was about 8am, and then we headed to the train station to wait for our train. So we took a train from Lagano to another Swiss town where we switched to a train with those same panoramic windows. We took that train to another Swiss town (I can’t pronounce let alone spell any of these places) where we caught a boat across a lake to Luzern. It was another beautiful ride. The water was so blue! We got lunch on the boat, and that was really good. The bad thing was it started raining when we left Lagano, and it didn’t stop until we were back in Zurich. So instead of walking around Luzern, we just grabbed the next train back to Zurich and went back to Claudio’s apartment where we chilled for about 3 hours before heading to the airport. We grabbed one last meal w/ him before we checked our bags and headed through security. By the way, I think I had the most expensive McDonald’s meal ever (12.50 chf)!

Surprisingly, everything went fairly smooth at the airport (minus the family in front of us that obviously could not read or follow directions!) and the flight was fairly smooth as well. We weren’t delayed at all! It’s amazing. We got in, got through customs (I will never understand why it takes the UK custom people 20 minutes to come to their stations and help the lines move quicker), got our bags, and got to the train station w/ 20 minutes to spare! It was awesome. We grabbed the train into London where we switched to King’s Cross and headed out to Cambridge. That’s where I am now as I write this. Mainly so I don’t have to tomorrow. :) I think we should get in around 1:30, which is the earliest we could have arrived given our schedule, but we’ll see. This train is making a lot of stops.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-34820309229355412832011-07-14T05:58:00.003-05:002011-07-14T06:11:33.764-05:00Quick weekI'm surprised this week went by so fast, but I'm somewhere b/t happy and sad about that.

I should start off w/ a note on my last post. Just so y'all know, Kevin was essentially our translator while we were in Germany. He did pretty good in all, although there was definitely some times when it was a little crazy. :)

So this week. Very quick, but very nice. Monday morning, I was up for class, and actually made it the whole day without a nap (go figure). We even had an auxiliary class that night for Comparative law. It was awesome. People showed up who weren't even in our class. Lol. Our teacher brought 8 bottles of wine for the 20 + people and we sat outside and had class. It was great. Tuesday was pretty bland. That night me and a couple of the girls went out to dinner though, and that was nice (I like girl time).

Yesterday, we found out that our middle class of the day (International Law) would be cancelled, and so one of the students went up to our Comparative law teacher and was like "we don't have int'l law tomorrow, and so you probably will be missing about half of us from class tomorrow, so you might want to cancel class." So he did. So today we only had one class, which would have been nice if we hadn't already booked our flight for 6pm tonight. Oh well. Yesterday night the college bar was open for the first time and so most of us went there for the evening. It was a great place to hang out. Very chill.

So today I went to class, packed, and am now waiting to go to the train station. Not much going on. :) We leave here about 6 and get into Zurich about 8 local time. We're meeting w/ Kevin's friend and heading back to his place. Tomorrow we're going the the friend's parent's house which is apparently in a beautiful part of the country. Then on Saturday we're taking a train through the Alps down to Lugano and staying the night there, and then Sunday we'll head back up. At some point on the train we'll go through Italy, but I'm not sure we'll be able to get off (I hope so though). Anyways, Sunday we leave at 9 local time and get back about 9:45 UK time. Hopefully we won't be delayed again, but either way, it'll be another late night for us. We'll be back sometime b/t 1:30am and 5:30am depending on the train/bus we end up catching. Should be interesting on Monday considering we're having 2 auxiliary classes for comparative law now (one already planned, and one to make up for today).

Have a good weekend everyone!Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-84214589304559907862011-07-12T11:28:00.004-05:002011-07-12T11:53:25.979-05:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSerFLDimjk_0VMXok6mZd6ZyznU1x7lHIRzJSW57oPy3iImkurYz1am5zZE0yEGnbYwzRJaeWmddHFrBXOZHLAalvGkBq3VtBmvvEn29-fjNt93B9tMj7546sG-uocpkUed1e_Nb_9NNp/s320/Germany+011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628504462443967474" />

Kevin and I ready for our trip to Salzburg

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjecuJK_2vwmuWQsIYGuyJZTsCSytuA-Ap_ES3g53BhmLuCVkIWLdqnbsY_6GhcbleZKZVafKtmiTFkbGjahGEp4sOIrKQgmYstt-mtFIb39PGTxeZRSFk8k87FsDEtnmlf_31Ae_5EcJ9Q/s320/Germany+016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628504464992503874" />

German country side

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg11XBYfCVFIHlpy6A5AA_9pPVwAGT8DGX4nHx3uVNUJcC5t6_zEr66_UxXMXwJKMWbLOMp6VHbJEgyJZ6bDzHLg3DL-wR-rz6QG6o4MihzRWghtZEPMquMq3UBX_BmE5l_wkwT_r0oYP5F/s320/Germany+030.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628504471619114578" />

Sound of Music stairs "do re mi fa so la ti do do ti la so fa mi re do"

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO6HmrCUR4QQF4nhdfZLu9la7O3XVHDuIZbO03CeA0Yu9Ks-oJOx-DT4Y13fCrir1KlUvDIUUNbBx1RGHNowfDmisnJ-xZdUeLI08sPcZXZkxVbkVr2wALINlUzo5ERCGOQazTOFWKOqaF/s320/Germany+062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628504479266417922" />

Me! Having said that... I apologize in advance for the length of this blog post. :)

So Thursday, Kevin and I left Cambridge and headed to the airport to go to Germany! We got there kind of early and gates don't get posted until about 45-60 min before the flight, so we just hung out. I found a World of Whiskey store and made sure to get a pic for dad. :) We got onto our plane (Easyjet) and we were already to go (even got decent seats, minus the 2 annoying kids in front of us) and the pilot came on and told us we had been delayed an hour and a half, and we had to stay on the plane. When we finally did take off, all was smooth until we got almost to Munich. There was a storm going on, so we were put in a circle pattern for a half hour before we could land. As we began descending, lightning was flashing all around us (super scary). And of course the two kids in front of us were like "cool! look, i can see fork lightning!" It's a miracle no one strangled them. When we did get in, we grabbed our bag, and we were exhausted. Unfortunately, we then had to figure out how to use the German underground (U-bahn/S-bahn). When we got our tickets (finally), we got on the train, but that ended up terminating sooner than we needed it to, and so at 11:30 pm we were trying to figure out what to do. We don't speak great german, and no one speaks great English. It was interesting to say the least. We finally got to the Pension, and checked in and crashed.

Day 2 was a day trip to Salzburg, Austria. We had to be at the central train station at 9 am, so we were up at 7 and figuring out how to get there. We got there, and all was good. We only got lost once or twice (lol). :) It was rainy in the morning, and we were hoping it wouldn't rain all day. Anyways, we met w/ our tour group, and hopped on a train to Salzburg. By the time we got there (about 11:30) it had stopped raining, but was still cloudy. We got about an hour and a half tour of the city. We saw Mozart's house, the steps/gardens where the "do re mi" scenes were filmed, and this awesome castle that has never fallen (as in war time fallen, not physically fallen). We had the afternoon to ourselves to grab lunch and explore. It was beautiful. Sunny and about 75 degrees. perfect weather. So we grabbed lunch, and then headed to the castle. We went up the tram and got some 360 views of Salzburg and the Alps. After that we went to this church where there was some good statues and such. After that we went to the market area and got a pretzel. :) We met up w/ our group about 4:30 and headed back to the train station to head back to Munich. As we got on the train, the clouds started creeping up, and about half way back, it started raining again. By the time we got back it was about 7pm so Kevin and I headed back to the pension, and just grabbed dinner in the neighborhood we were staying in. I had my first kebab. It wasn't too bad, but the language barrier made it difficult to get what I was wanting. After that we just headed back to the Pension and chilled. Again, it was a beautiful day all day, and that night it stormed again.

Day 3 was time in Munich. The first half of the day we went on a Third Reich Walking Tour of Munich it started in the town center by the "new" town hall. However, they were finishing setting up for gay pride weekend when we got there so it made things extremely interesting. :) We met up w/ our tour group and headed off. It was really interesting seeing all these famous places and learning about the history.

A few things I learned: 80% of Munich was bombed; many of the taller landmarks were left alone so they could be used as landmarks; The Haufbrahaus was where Hitler began making speeches because beer halls are where everyone hung out and it's a lot easier to persuade people to do stuff when they're drunk; Hitler originally wanted to be a painter, but was turned down by university twice; After WWII, they were originally going to leave bombed out Munich as is and then rebuild about 50 miles away, but they couldn't do that, so they rebuilt, but a lot of the buildings were built w/ new materials in the old style.

That afternoon we went back to the train station to meet up w/ Kevin's cousin Jared and Jared's friend Sam who are both stationed up by Nuremberg. That proved difficult b/c they got in late, and we didn't know, and when we did find out, we had already left, so we had to go back and find them. We did, and so after that we literally just walked around Munich aimlessly for an hour and a half. So there was also apparently some sort of convention going on as well as gay pride weekend b/c we saw a lot of people dressed up in Star Wars weekends as we walked around (they could be related, but I don't think so). The good thing about the German S-bahn/U-bahn is that you can buy what are called partner tickets and they cover up to 5 people on ticket. So it was less than 10 euros total for a day ticket for us to ride around on. Also, no one actually checks the tickets. It's basically on the honor system. I don't think I saw one conductor/station person the entire time we used the S-bahn/U-bahn. Anyways, since we had this partner ticket we took Jared and Sam back to our pension for a half hour or so. Then we headed to the fun part of our evening. :)

The beer and food tour!!!!! The four of us had tickets, and so we headed back to the train station (it was literally our second residence while we were in Munich). We met up with our tour. There was about 16 of us total. We had a welcome beer and got a quick run down of what we were going to do, and then it was off to the Oktoberfest Museum. Now, I should mention here that it had been gorgeous all day, and as we went into the Museum, the clouds started rolling in. The plan was for us to be at the Museum until about 8 and then head to Haufbrakeller. We got through our guided tour of the museum, and at the end we got to sample 3 different beers (I definitely like the Weisse biere). They also gave us pretzels to eat, and not just any pretzels, but Bavarian pretzels that are like the size of your hand. Anyways, it had started raining while we were in the museum, so we had to chill a little longer until it stopped, which it eventually did. Then we caught the tram and headed to Haufbrakeller, but we didn't get there until about 8:45/9. Jared and Sam had to duck out by 9:20 in order to catch the tram back to the station. However, they got to eat w/ us first. We were served a traditional Bavarian cold dinner complete w/ different sausages/brautworsts/salamis, cheese, ham, bread, onions, sauerkraut, pretzels, and pickles. It was all really good. And of course, we all had another beer there (When in Rome). When we were all done it was about 9:45/10 and so we headed back out to catch the tram and go to the Haufbrahaus. However, the tram ended up being late, and it had started raining again as we waited. So about 10 of us (some people had left) huddled under the cover trying to stay dry. The tram came and we all hopped on and headed off. Unfortunately, the tram line was being work on and it was terminated about a mile from our destination and the rain really started coming down. So we ducked into a theater lobby to wait it out. As we were discussing what to do, the house manager came up and offered to let us watch the last 15-20 min of this 100 euro dinner show for free while we waited for the rain to stop. About 6 of us accepted, and the other 4 caught taxis to wherever they needed to go. The show was called "Move" and there was no talking, just music. So we saw the end of a Spanish dance, we saw a trapeze act (it was amazing, words cannot describe it), and then we saw the finale which involved jump roping and a pom dance. It was pretty cool. When it was done, we all headed back out, and the rain had let up, but it hadn't quit, so the decision passed to us, so the 6 of us decided to just go through the rain. So we did. Once there, 2 more left for the train. So 4 of us got a quick tour of the Haufbrahaus (it was 11pm) before we were let loose to go get a drink. Last call was at 11, so we found a table and grabbed a biere. Now, after 6pm, this place doesn't serve anything less than 1 liter beers. It was awesome. There was a band, and lots of drunk people to watch, lol. After that, Kevin and I went our separate ways and headed back to the pension.

Day 4 was our last day in Munich. It, also, started off beautiful. We checked out and went and got a luggage locker at the train station for the day. After that we went out and caught the Hop on Hop off tour bus. It took us to a lot of places we had already been, but it was still nice to see it again. So we had tickets to ride that around all day, and we had all day 4-zone tickets (b/c we had to go to the airport later). So after we rode through the whole thing once, we rode around again to the royal gardens, got out, and walked to the english gardens. We walked around the gardens and saw a standing wave where people were surfing (in Munich! go figure) and the Chinese bieregarten. We also saw a lot of people laying out b/c it was so nice, unfortunately for us, it was clothing optional, lol. Anyways. For lunch we went to one of the bieregartens and got some food. Then we hopped on the S-bahn/U-bahn out to Olympic park. It was pretty cool. They had made some improvements since they were competing for the 2018 winter Olympics (they lost to South Korea I believe). We spent a few hours there just chilling. There was also a BMW museum there that we stopped off in. We headed back to the city center so we could watch the glockenspiel go off (we ended up being disappointed, it's broken). So we caught the U-bahn/S-bahn still in and caught the hop on hop off bus around to Marienplatz (city center). It had started raining while we were underground though (go figure). Luckily, I had my umbrella. We got there kind of early so we people watched a little at the gay pride weekend thing and listened to what was going on on stage (I think it was a drag show. I couldn't see or understand what was being said). After we were disappointed, we went back to the train station, got our bags, and headed to the airport (much less adventurous this time around). We grabbed dinner there, and listened to the thunderstorm come through. It cleared off before we took off though, which was nice.

But, just because that wasn't enough of an adventure... Our flight ended up being delayed about a half hour b/c so many people brought suitcases that it wouldn't all fit in the overhead bins so they had to get some people to come out and stick them below. So Kevin and I got in at 11:10 instead of 10:45 and our bus back to Cambridge left at 11:35. Needless to say, we did not make it. We had to take a tram back to the main terminal, and then get through customs. We were like, crap, I guess we're sleeping in the airport. But, we went to the bus station anyways, just in case they had another bus going that way. Lucky for us, they did!!! Yay!!!! It left at 1am. So we had about an hour to kill, and then we took a 40 minute bus ride back to Cambridge. We got in about 1:45. Monday morning, we were both up for classes, and neither of us fell asleep in class (at least, not for the whole class) ;).

It was definitely a fun weekend, and one that will definitely be remembered. It's always things that don't go according to plan that you remember distinctly for years to come. Pics are up on facebook, but I think i'll post a few on here as well.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-15500449786253287732011-07-07T07:08:00.002-05:002011-07-07T07:18:30.796-05:00TGIT...One thing I love about my study abroad programs over here: 3-day weekends!!!! :-D

So this week has been pretty good. Monday was the 4th of July and so we all (all 30 of us, or however many there are) went out. We just hung close to "home" and went to The Snug (the pub next door). They gave us a ton of coupons that was like get an American Burger and get a free cocktail. Now the burger = disgusting, but the cocktail was good. :) It was a fun night though. It was so fun there were some people missing in class the next day. Lol.

The next three days were pretty uneventful. Went to class, and then studied. Lol. Last night Jesse and I headed to The Free Press (we've decided this will be our regular Wednesday night hang out) and gossiped a little and chatted w/ the locals.

Today, in fact in about an hour, I'll be heading to the train station to head to London and catch a plane to Germany. We'll be in Munich this weekend. Although Friday we're taking a day trip to Salzburg, Austria. I'm really looking forward to this trip, although I think Kevin is kind of nervous. He's not really used to travelling, but once we're there it'll be good, I'm sure.

Most of our other friends are heading to London for the weekend. Some are leaving in about an hour, and others are going later, or tomorrow. There's about 8 of them who got wristbands to.... get this.... the Harry Potter Premiere in Trafalgar Square tonight. They went right after class yesterday and stood in line to get the last few wristbands! So apparently they have Trafalgar Square fenced off, and this wrist band gets you into the square mile fenced off area where the red carpet is. I'm not sure if they'll get close to see anyone (mainly b/c I don't know how many wristbands they gave out) but someone said the red carpet is a mile long, and so hopefully they'll be able to get some awesome pics. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit jealous right now, and by a little bit, I mean a lot! :)

Anyways, that's all from here. I need to get packing. I'll post again on Monday!Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-24253241314052746122011-07-04T03:29:00.003-05:002011-07-04T03:56:58.818-05:00Proof that Subway is better than McDonald'sSo this weekend was another good one. However, I kind of consider any weekend with my English family a good one. This one was particularly good though because I also got to go to Harlaxton for a night (can I just go take my law classes there please?).

So Thursday evening I headed off to Harlaxton and got in a little before 9. I spent the first hour or so running around taking pictures, remembering all the awesome places to hang out, and just generally enjoying being home again. I spent a good 15 minutes looking for where I signed my name on a pipe down on the ground floor, but everyone signs the pipes, so there were hundreds of names to look through. Luckily, I had an idea of where I had signed, but that actually only helped a little. That night I vegged, and ordered pizza (really, I can't go to Harlaxton and not order Pizza King). However, I forgot that all the pizzas were buy one get one free, and so I ended up with a lot of food. I was able to pawn some of it off on some summer students though. When I was over there in 2006, the big clock on the tower, didn't work, but they were raising money to have it restored. Well, it has been restored, and it's beautiful, except when it chimes all through the night (1am, 2am, 3am, 4am, etc...). Oh well, it was great to be back.

The next day I headed off to Coventry. I met up with Uncle Stephen and Lynne, and was immediately accosted in order to get some passport photos taken (long story). After that we headed to the post office, sent them off to dad, and then headed into town for dinner with some of their friends. It was fun. They have a friend who's my age, her name is Lillian. She's very sweet, if not odd at some times, but was fun to talk to. For dinner I had two pints of Weston's cider, which I think I've had before, but it was delicious, and a burger and chips. It was really good.

On Saturday we got up and headed to Birmingham. In Birmingham, I kid you not, there are Subways on every corner. The Subways there are like Starbucks in America. There's always one near by. Turns out, Subway is now the leading fast food chain in the world. That's right, they surpassed McDonald's. We hit up a museum first, and that was pretty interesting. Next we went to Subway (well, it had been on my mind since we passed 3 of them in the mile to the museum) for lunch. Oh and the Subways over here, actually have ranch. Not salad cream, but actual ranch. If I need a fix, I know where to go. :)

That afternoon we went to a Back to Backs tour. It was basically a tour of how housing used to be in Birmingham, and it too was really interesting. I really enjoyed that. A back to back is literally, two houses, back-to-back. Instead of the front house having a back door or windows on the back, it has a brick wall and a house built on the other side, so the house on the back has an address that says back of number 24 Abbey Rd. Each house had 3 floors, but they were tiny houses, and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. Although I couldn't get any pics, I was allowed to touch everything, go figure. By the way, in the mile or two from the museum to the back to backs there were 3 Subways. After that I was let loose to go shopping for an hour, and spent some of my birthday money from Uncle David on a new dress. It's really pretty. :-D

That night we went to go see a play, "Dunsinane". It is the sequel to Macbeth. It was really good, there were some really funny parts to it. :) Before the play, we went to a fish and chip shop and got some dinner. In Stratford they were having a river festival, so across the river from the theater there was a bunch of long boats docked, and there was a stage, carnival booths and food, and a few basic rides (nothing mechanical). It was fun to watch. After the play we went to the pub and I had a glass of wine (I should really not drink wine, it makes me so sleepy). As we were having our drink, the river festival set off some fireworks, so I did get a little bit of a Fourth of July celebration this weekend. :)

The next day we had a lazy morning, and then they took me to the train station, and I headed back to Cambridge. My entire goal in getting back was to get back early enough so I could get my laundry started before everyone else got back (success). It was a pretty easy rest of the evening, because one good thing about train rides, is their excellent time to get work done. :)

Not much going on this week, just class, but next weekend is Munich and Salzburg. :-D

Oh, and Happy Independence Day!!! (first one I've ever missed I think).Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-75262674852317030442011-06-30T10:22:00.002-05:002011-06-30T10:38:04.593-05:00Still waiting on the dryer....So I'm trying to get some laundry done before I head to Coventry (I'm not sure I will actually finish before I have to leave), and while I wait, I figured I'd update my blog. :)

So while I get to do free laundry here, because the house I live in has it's own washer/dryer in the kitchen. Here's the thing. My building is one of the two that actually have free laundry, and there are students in 5 or 6 houses. So everyone comes here to do laundry. I have a feeling that in the future I'll either be doing my laundry in the middle of the night or during class. Either way, it could be interesting. And of course, both washer and dryer are small (which is what I was expecting) so you have to do laundry like every 3-4 days. And the dryer... well let's just say it sucks. Lol. Oh well. I'm leaving for the weekend, if all else fails I'll just hang clothes around my room.

So I'm finally getting into the swing of things around here (just in time for the weekend, lol). I think the jet lag I had this time around was by far the worse I've ever experienced. I have since learned that when I come over, I need to get on a schedule asap, so my body can adjust quicker. Classes are definitely becoming more interesting, so that's good, and the teachers aren't half bad either. :) The guy from UTK is awesome. I really wish he taught at Ole Miss! And of course my British professor, John Hopkins is a character for sure. One of his favorite things to say is "what's the point in having prejudices if you don't air them?" Check his Wiki page out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hopkins_(lawyer)

Last night I grabbed my friend Jesse and took her to a less touristy English pub. It still wasn't as traditional as I'm used to, but I think since Cambridge is so touristy I'll be hard pressed to find what I'm used to. However, the place we went last night wasn't too bad. It was called The Free Press. While there we met several locals, and we'll definitely be back. It's only about a 10 min walk.

This weekend I'm heading to Coventry to visit Uncle Stephen and Lynne. I'm looking forward to seeing them. First though, I'm heading to Harlaxton. I'll be there tonight and tomorrow before heading to Coventry. I am soooooooooooo excited!!! :-D

Anyways, that's all from here. I've been snapping lots of pics, and I'll upload them as soon as I get a chance. Have a good weekend (I know I will)! :)Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-58286486460754607952011-06-27T15:15:00.003-05:002011-06-27T15:49:08.738-05:00Strangeness...So, today was the first day of class. I'm taking 3 classes: International/Comparative Family Law - not gonna lie, the professor is pretty dry, and I most definitely almost fell asleep listening to him this morning (not a good thing since there's only 14 of us in there), but maybe it's just b/c it was the first day; International Law - we have a 75 year old professor who is very British and says some very random things ("Paris is great, but there's one drawback - the Parisians"); and Comparative Law - my professor for this class is from UTK and he seems pretty cool, and the class seems fairly interesting as well.

The meals are really good here. Typical English breakfast (complete w/ fry bread, which I didn't realize until about half way through eating a piece while trying to figure out why it tasted so weird). We also get and English dinner (not lunch) and it is like dinner. Today was stuffed Guinea or some sort of fish, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, and some other sides as well. They also have a fruit/salad bar, but apparently we're only supposed to get hot or cold, not both, and then we get dessert.

After lunch, we had a meeting where the important people at the college gave us the low down, and we got our internet passwords (which I actually don't need where I am). After that, Jesse, Kevin and I headed into town. We went to a dept. store first. I got a pillow and a fan (yay air). Then we went to the Sainsbury local (mini grocery store). I got some bottled water and some orange juice. Next stop (after dropping off what we had bought already) was to the book store to get our British texts, but they didn't have them, and so they're on order. After that we headed back to the college. Along the way we stopped at Starbuck's and then at a phone store. I got an English phone. I wasn't going to get one, but apparently, it's not like Harlaxton where only like one guy had a phone, pretty much everyone here has a phone, and so we're all communicating that way. So I used some of my birthday money that I got from Uncle David to get that. I can only call British Mobile phones, but I think that's all I'll need (unless I need to call the Porter's office). Anybody can call me though, and I'm almost positive it doesn't count towards my balance, so if you want the number, email/msg me.

This evening a bunch of us went to this Asian place to eat, but I wasn't all that hungry, so I just got something small. And now, at 9:30 pm, I'm finally getting around to doing my reading for tomorrow. This type of schedule is not going to fly for very much longer, that's for sure.

All is going well here, but at the same time, I feel like something's wrong. I'm not sure what, not even a little bit. But you know those feelings you get when you know something is not right? It's one of those. Usually, I come over here and I feel right at home, and when I was in Barrow I was, but something's different here. I dunno, maybe I'm imagining things, I just wish this feeling would go away.

Anyways, that's all from here, I really need to get some work done. I'll post some pics soon.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-84795834328412880872011-06-26T16:35:00.003-05:002011-06-26T17:38:10.688-05:00What a crazy day...Wow. What a whirlwind day (to say the least). I am exhausted!

So this morning, I got up and Uncle David came and got me and offered to take me all the way to Preston instead of Lancaster, so I didn't have to change as much. When I got to Preston, I got my ticket, and it said I would get into Cambridge at 14:54, and would make two stops. One at London Euston, and one at Finsbury Park. So I got on the train and headed to London. All was going well, when all of sudden we got stopped. Apparently, someone had stolen 5 miles of signaling cable/equipment, and they were debating on whether to terminate our ride in Rugby, UK or go ahead and make our way through. After about 20 min of being stopped, they decided to go on through, BUT there was 2 trains in front of us that needed to go through as well. So when we got into Euston (finally) we were about an hour late.

I decided on the train that I would forgo the Finsbury stop (which only gave me 20 min to get there) and get the Kings Cross so I had about 45 minutes (plus Kings Cross was only one stop away). It's a good thing I decided to do Kings Cross, b/c as I found out later, Finsbury Park was closed, and the Victoria line was closed as well. Luckily, Kings Cross was on the Northern line, but it still took me a good 5 minutes to figure out what platform to go to. Once I got to Kings Cross underground, I then had to find the actual train station, which also proved difficult. Luckily, I found it in time to catch the Cambridge train. So I got to Cambridge, and as I was getting off the train, I saw a friend who was doing this program as well, and we grabbed a taxi together to the college.

When I got here, we had trouble finding the porter's lodge, and ended up needlessly dragging our luggage through gravel for about a block. Once we got here, they gave us our keys and showed us where to go. However, my door was broken, and I couldn't get in. So they put me in a different building, and let me choose the room, but the room I chose first was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hot, and the ethernet connection was messed up, so I went to the Porter's and asked to change rooms.

Now this house/building I'm in now has a laundry room (yay free laundry), a kitchen, and my bedroom has my own personal bathroom (shower and all). Unfortunately/ Fortunately, we are right next to a pub. Literally. I can hear the conversations happening on the patio outside the pub. However, there are a bunch of us over here. They said once they get my room fixed I can take a look at it, and then decide where I want to stay. Right now my options are amenities vs. quiet. I'm not sure which is better. It's not like I'm going to be here on weekends (when I assume it's rowdiest), but I'm curious how late they chill outside, b/c if it's too late, I might bail on this room (and the amenities:-/).

Anyways, I made it and all is well. After an adventurous day I'm exhausted. I plan to grab a shower and hit the hay. G'night all!!!Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3597056277774470954.post-3170740739506898402011-06-25T16:44:00.002-05:002011-06-25T17:03:55.747-05:00Time to leave Barrow :(Well, it's been a quick trip, unfortunately. :( I love coming here. It's so relaxing. So Friday I headed out with my Uncle David to the beach and we walked around the dunes for a while and then we went for ice cream (note: ice cream when it's 58 degrees, possibly not the best idea, but still tastes really good). Then last night I headed out with an old friend, Lauren. I walked down to her house and saw her family, and then we met up with a few of her friends and went to dinner and then to one of the local pubs for a few drinks. It was great catching up. I can't believe we're both old enough where we can "go for drinks". It blows my mind! :)

Today my aunt and uncle came and got me and we went to some caves up north. That was fun. It was raining a little bit and silly me thought I would dryer in the cave. After we were done we went for a late lunch, and then headed to a pub for a drink before we headed back to Barrow. When I got back tonight I skyped with my parents, did laundry, and repacked all my bags. Of course I spent all my time here just chilling in the conservatory, hanging out with family, and trying to make dad exceedingly jealous. :-D

There's never enough time when I'm here. I suppose that's a good thing, but I'm never sure when I'm going to get back, so it kind of stinks. :-/ Like I said before, it's just so relaxing and peaceful. What can I say... it's home.Acinom19http://www.blogger.com/profile/04550643933281131245noreply@blogger.com0
