So last week was my oral arguments. I argued on Thursday at 11:30 am. It could have gone better and ended w/ me in tears. I was so emotionally drained after it, and in my mind I did awful. Since then I've thought about it logically, and I did ok. I know my outline and what I wanted to say better than anyone, which is why when I didn't say what I wanted or messed up something it really upset me. Also, I forgot to ask for rebuttal time. I tried to do it at the end, but they wouldn't let me. The judges were also supposed to ask me questions, and I only got 2, which completely threw me off. I was so upset. It astounds me that I did drama and was in all the musicals at church. I took a speech class, I've made speeches before. I did all of those with no problems. I get up in front of 3 other people and I lose it. It was the first real time I've ever doubted my career choice. Since then, I've looked at it, and overall, I made my major points, and I cited my cases, so I passed. And I plan to try out for moot court again next fall. Until then, I need to concentrate on finals and summer school.
Oral Arguments consumed my life last week. Friday was my first "final". It was a true final, but it was really easy. Open note and I could use the internet. :) It was Kevin's b-day on Friday, so we met another couple for dinner and then went to a concert. It was fun. Saturday we went to an Ole Miss baseball game and watched University of Georgia destroy the rebels (8-3). That night was a quiet night in, and Sunday I spent 5 hours in the library reading.
It's getting close to finals. There are 31 days left before the end of the semester. My goal is to have all my reading for the semester finished this week so I can just concentrate on studying for finals. This coming weekend Kevin and I are going to Memphis for Brewfest (his birthday present). Next weekend is Easter, so we have Friday off, but I also have dinner w/ two of my profs and three of my friends. That will be fun. I'm excited about it. After that, there's one more week until finals. I've got two weeks of finals, and then it's summer. Crazy. This year has flown by.
Two more updates. I'm running for Honor Council again for next year, and the vote is tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm also trying out for the Dean's Leadership Council, which is like a student ambassador for the law school. I should have an interview sometime next week, and then I should know (hopefully) before finals. So cross your fingers on those two things.

US v. Ripley Part 1
This appellate brief has pretty much consumed my life this past week and weekend. But it's done. I got it knocked down from just over 17 pages to right at 15. I got all the cites and capitalizations and little grammar errors fixed (I hope). The formatting is done on everything. And I sent a copy to my professor and the person I'm doing my oral arguments against. All I have to do now is print it out, get it bound, and turn it in by 5pm on Wednesday. If feels so good to be almost done with it. I am very proud. I think oral arguments will be fun as well. As long as I don't choke that is.
I wish I could say I could take breather, but it's the second half of the semester, and while in undergrad that basically means you can check out, in law school it means, let's fire it up baby. So while I'm turning in my appellate brief this week, I'm also turning in a homework assignment at the end of the week, writing a paper due on Monday, "preparing" for my Research final next friday, attending various meetings this week, beginning my flash cards for my finals, looking for an apartment, registering for classes this friday, and on top of all of this I have my regular reading. I wanted to do this, right?
On the bright side, this week I officially booked my flight for England!!! I leave on June 21 and come back on August 9. I'm spending the first few days with my grandparents and then I'll head to Cambridge and spend 6 weeks in school (it'll be fun though) and then I'll have about 4 days for a mini vacation to somewhere. Then schools tarts back about 2.5 weeks after I get back. At this point I'm just trying to figure out what the first half of the summer looks like. Cross your fingers that I get this internship I'm waiting to hear from. That's about it for me. Have a good week!

Spring Break 2011
So obviously, I didn't write this past week because I was in Georgia on spring break. :) This past week was awesome! The weather was amazing and seeing friends who I haven't seen in a year or more was so much fun. SO I left last Friday, on the 11th and headed to Atlanta. I met up with my friend Kellie and her boyfriend Dylan, and spent the weekend with them. Friday we didn't do much, just stayed in, talked and watched movies. We went to Centennial Park and walked around Downtown ATL on Saturday. That night we went out to a local bar and chilled.
Sunday morning I left and headed to Eatonton, GA, about an hour south of ATL to go to Kevin's house for a few days. I met his parents, grandparents, and one of his uncles. It's kind of cool that his family lives so close to each other. Monday he took me to Athens, GA, which is east of ATL and home to the University of Georgia where he did his undergrad. That campus was HUGE!!! But it was absolutely beautiful. It was a lot of fun.
Tuesday Kevin and I headed to Savannah, GA to see my friends Rachel and TJ. They have a 7 mo. old son named Jax. This was the first time I got to meet him. He is so cute, but was teething so wasn't exactly happy a lot of the time. TJ's brother Riley was also in town, so they had a full house. TJ is a Ranger in the army and so they live on base. So in their 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house they had 5 adults, one baby, and two dogs for 3 days. :) It was so much fun though. Rachel, Riley, Jax, Kevin, and I all went to the beach (TJ had to work). It was pretty windy, but still nice. That night Rachel and I left the boys at home and went to this place called Lulu's Chocolate bar in downtown Savannah. It was chocolate heaven! Thursday was St. Patrick's Day, and Savannah has the second largest Saint Patrick's Day parade in the US. And let me tell you, it was long. 2.5 hours and it was still going! But we all saw TJ march by, and besides being long, the parade was pretty good, and the weather was amazing!!! That night after Jax went to bed we played Scattegories.
Friday morning Kevin and I got up pretty early for Spring Break (like 7:15) so we could hit the road before 8. Kevin had an interview at 1 that afternoon so we had to get back. However, because we got back to his house so early I had a lot of time to kill before I had to be back up in ATL to meet my other friend Stephanie. So I decided to take a side trip to Peachtree City, GA, which is just south of ATL and visit Phi Mu headquarters (my sorority's headquarters). It was awesome! I got a tour of the facility and got to go into the museum. After that I headed up to meet Stephanie. We chilled that night, got ice cream, watched movies, and crashed early.
Saturday we did some antique shopping in the morning, and then met Kevin for lunch (he went back to Oxford on Saturday). Kellie and Dylan also joined us. I was hoping Kellie and Stephanie would hit it off since they live within 15 minutes of each other and were both looking for some more friends. I think they did. :) That afternoon Stephanie and I headed to a thrift store shopping district. That night we met up with Kellie and Dylan and hit up a local bar. It was called Johnnie MacCracken's Celtic Irish Pub. It was interesting, but not necessarily a place I would go on a regular basis.
Sunday morning I had to leave. :( So I got up and headed out around 9:30 and drove back to Oxford. I got in around 2, and have basically been getting ready for the week since. I got some homework done, did my laundry, and have been watching Harry Potter (I swear these Harry Potter weekends happen like once a month). I don't have Contracts at all this week, so that frees up some time on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning which will be helpful b/c I still have some work to do on my Appellate brief which is due in a week. I also hope to book my flight to England for the summer and to find out for sure if I got the internship I interviewed for before spring break. And if all that isn't enough, I need to go look at an apartment that I think will be where I live for the next two years. Crazy.

3 more days, 3 more days....
Spring Break 2011 begins at 2:01 pm Thursday afternoon!!! I am so excited! I am so ready for a break! I'm going to Georgia for the week to see some college friends and a high school friend. I'll also be meeting Kevin's parents somewhere in there. It'll be a fun 9 days. :-D
SO not much went on this past week. Just taking it day to day. My friend Robyn and her boyfriend Josh came down and visited on Saturday. It was fun having them in town, I just wish it had been rainy and cold. We ate out for lunch and dinner, and then I took them to a party w/ a bunch of my law school friends. They had fun and I had fun having them here.
This coming week is also a pretty chill week for me. I'm actually going home tomorrow afternoon for the night. I need to get a suitcase for spring break, and I have an interview Wednesday morning in Hernando, MS which is about half way b/t Memphis and Oxford. So cross your fingers and wish me luck on that. :)
Section has it really tough this week because they are the only class with a midterm, and it'll be a tough one for them. They've all been studying since Saturday afternoon pretty much (including Kevin unfortunately). So while Section 2 and 3 take it relatively easy (this is law school after all), Section 1 is very busy. But everyone is looking forward to spring break that's for sure!

Best Law School Oxymoron: Brief
Sorry it's been a few weeks y'all. Not too much has happened really. At this point I'm kind of wondering where the heck February has gone. I mean, really, wasn't it just January? Maybe I'm just having a good time...
In all reality I am having a good time. I'm having a great time! So random stuff that has happened first: About a week and a half ago I went home for my little sister's 17th birthday. I still can't believe she's 17. In my book she'll always be like 10 or 11 I think. It's so weird to see her growing up. Even though she's still got a long way to go, it amazes me how much of an amazing woman she is becoming. Very kind, very loyal, and very logical about things (as much as she hates to admit it). Every day she becomes even more lovely and more grown. She's learning to listen to what others say, and not just automatically dismissing it, and she's beginning to see what she can accomplish in the future. Seeing her realize these dreams is truly a pleasure on my end. And even though she still drives me nuts sometimes, I still love her, and as she gets older, we're able to connect a little bit more than we have before. I look forward to what the future holds for our relationship.
Ok, enough gushing about that. :) This past weekend was almost non-existent. However, Friday night made up for my lack of the rest of the weekend more than enough. It was Barrister's Ball, aka Law Prom. Kevin and I went out to dinner with another couple before hand at this really fancy restaurant and had an amazing meal (filet w/ garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus). Then we went to where the dance was held. They had a live band (mostly playing Motown music), and everyone looked gorgeous. Almost everyone was there and it was 3 hours of socializing and dancing. Very possibly better than my actual high school prom (sorry Sam and Brandon). It would have topped it if I could have gotten Kevin to dance more, but really, that's partly my fault as we were both busy talking with our friends. :) Here's a pic of us:
Saturday and Sunday I spent in the library. Literally. 1-6 on Saturday and 1-7 on Sunday. I was working on my Contracts homework, Introduction for my group's trial brief, and the thing that took most of my time... My Appellate Brief Outline. For those who don't know what this is, here's a quick explanation: When you go to trial and lose, generally you appeal the decision to the next court up in the chain (the appellate court, generally). You don't do another trial case there, instead the two lawyers argue in front of a panel of judges, and the judges make a decision based on that and the trial court's transcript. Before you even argue though, you have to submit a "brief" to the judges explaining your case. If you're only appealing on one issue (like we are) it'll be about 30 pages long (hence the oxymoron).
So our outline was due this week (whenever you met with your writing prof for a one-on-one consultation, mine was Monday). Really, the most basic form was main points and cases that were going to be used to back up each point. Of course, the more details you do now, the less work you do later. So I basically did all of my research over the weekend, which included reading about 20 cases (only ended up using about 14 or 15) and then forming arguments from those cases and pinpointing where I got my information. All in all, my outline was about 6 pages long. When I went to my meeting today, my prof told me my outline looked like a draft minus substantial sentences, so I suppose that's a good thing. So the whole thing is due in about a month (I should really check on that date), and then we get to argue our case in front of real judges. There are four teachers, and two of the teacher's classes were assigned the prosecution and the other two teacher's classes have the defense. So they'll pair us up (one for plaintiff and one for defendant) and we'll get to argue, and you can even enter a competition to get on the moot court board I think (I want to do that).
Our case is on the right to a speedy trial, and if you look at the facts as are, it looks like the defense (Ripley) has a solid case against the prosecutor (the US gov't). However, b/c I'm arguing for the gov't (which I wasn't happy about originally) I've found a lot of good arguments for them, and am actually kind of enjoying the process of trying to figure out how to craft my arguments and argue my side (I'm taking that as a sign that coming to law school was the right choice). I'll let you guys know how it goes, but I'm pretty excited about it.

Amazing weekend!
So this past week has been really good. The actual week itself was pretty boring... just school, school, and, oh yeah, did I mention school? During the week, that is my life. Contracts, Criminal Law, Legal Writing, Torts, Constitutional law, and Legal Research. For this past week and the next two weeks I don't have Contracts on Fridays, which means I don't have to be at school until 12:30 for Legal Research. Woot!
I got to dog sit again this weekend. I got Maia Wednesday Morning, and I have her until tomorrow morning. As much as she occasionally annoys me (waking me up at 7am by jumping on me is not fun), I love it when I get to take care of her. Her good qualities outweigh her bad (like wandering around the house, trying to bury her bone in various couch cushions).
Friday night was date night. I cooked this mac and cheese recipe I found online for Kevin, and then we went out with our friends later that night. It was a good relaxing evening. Saturday morning Chelsea came down and hung out for the afternoon. That evening we drove an hour east to Tupelo for the Rascal Flatts concert we got tickets to for Christmas. It was Chris Young, Luke Bryan, and Rascal Flatts (best concert ever)!!! I think Chels and I both wish Luke Bryan had played a little longer though. It was fun any how though. :) Chels left Sunday afternoon and headed home so she could go to her Super Bowl party. I spent the afternoon doing laundry, cooking peanut butter cup brownies, and making Con Law flashcards (I've got like 600 cases to memorize... trying to get a head start). Tonight I'm heading to a friend's Super Bowl party. It'll be fun. Then tomorrow, it's back to the grind.

68 and sunny one day, snow the next
So last weekend, I was really busy trying to get ahead in all my classes. However, you didn't miss out on much. We had a 4 day week because of Martin Luther King Jr Day. It was a basic week: go to class, do homework, come home, go to bed, get up, repeat. Last weekend there was a small cocktail party for a friend who got married over Christmas break. His wife is in the process of moving from Texas to Oxford, and she was in town for that weekend. It was fun getting to meet her and hearing about the wedding and honeymoon.
This weekend I came home for a friend's birthday, and I didn't want to have to worry about homework and law school while I was home, and in order to do that, I had to get all of my work done through Tuesday. So I spent a lot of last weekend, and the beginning of last week working ahead in all of my classes. It made for a very long week, especially since I was really looking forward to hanging out with my friends. So I got everything done, and packed on Thursday night. I was also excited because my boyfriend Kevin was coming with me at the request of my friend who's birthday party I was going to. That, of course, meant meeting the parents, something that's never fun, but especially so early in the relationship. It was good though, everything went great.
So Friday night Kevin and I went out with my friend Jesse and her boyfriend. We went to a bar and then went cosmic bowling. It was a lot of fun. I learned that I still stink at bowling. :) Saturday morning we got up ridiculously early for a Saturday (7:30) and went to watch my little sister swim in the county swim meet. She did really good. That afternoon I had a meeting with a local lawyer, not an interview, just an informational meeting. It was very helpful. I look forward to using him as a resource in the future. After that I came back and quickly got ready for the party. The meeting had been at 4:30, and originally I wanted to leave at 5:30, but it ended up being closer to 6. Kevin and I headed towards my friend Robyn's apartment downtown. Unfortunately, they were doing road work on I-40 and it took us an hour to get down there. For her birthday we went to Spaghetti Warehouse, where the service was absolutely awful (and that's saying something coming from me), and then to some downtown bars. We ended up at a place called Raiford's which is a 70s disco themed club. It was a lot of fun.
This morning we got up and went to church before heading back to Oxford. Unfortunately for me I left my Oxford house key in Memphis, luckily though, I realized it about a half hour outside Memphis, so my dad and I met up on the edge of Memphis. We made it back around 4pm though, so I have the rest of the evening to just chill, although I'm going to make flash cards and type up notes instead. Overall, it's been a pretty good two weeks. Next weekend is the Rascal Flatts/Luke Bryan concert that Chelsea and I got tickets to for Christmas. I'm really looking forward to that. :)
This weekend I came home for a friend's birthday, and I didn't want to have to worry about homework and law school while I was home, and in order to do that, I had to get all of my work done through Tuesday. So I spent a lot of last weekend, and the beginning of last week working ahead in all of my classes. It made for a very long week, especially since I was really looking forward to hanging out with my friends. So I got everything done, and packed on Thursday night. I was also excited because my boyfriend Kevin was coming with me at the request of my friend who's birthday party I was going to. That, of course, meant meeting the parents, something that's never fun, but especially so early in the relationship. It was good though, everything went great.
So Friday night Kevin and I went out with my friend Jesse and her boyfriend. We went to a bar and then went cosmic bowling. It was a lot of fun.
