So Christmas is my favorite holiday for sure. It's also my favorite time of year. I love the cold weather (unless you live in Memphis and it's 66 degrees on Christmas Eve) and snow (unless you live in Memphis, then it's rain) and how everyone is caring and jolly and ready for the season (unless you're at the mall). :)
In my family we have a lot of traditions, and we are very traditional in the way of Christmas things. The day after Thanksgiving the Christmas lights go up on the house. This year we switched from multi-colored to red and green, but it still looks cool. Chelsea and i get advent calendars from our grandparents in England, which are calendars with doors that you open up and have chocolate in them for each day. About a week and a half to two weeks (depending on when Christmas falls) we go get our tree because we always get a live one... none of this fake crap! usually on a Sunday after church, and then we come home and decorate it and the rest of the house. This year unfortunately i couldn't make it home to pick out the tree, so my parents and sister had to do it without me. They also put the lights up, but left the ornaments for when I got home that week.
Every year, we get a new ornament as well. Each person in my family does. We go out someplace together and we each pick one out. Then we come home and hang them. This year we went to Macy's to get them. Chelsea and I both got mini snow globes with our names on them (they actually had a Kirsten, that does not happen often) and I got a ornament that said 2008, chelsea got a crown, dad got a red bird, and i don't remember what mom got (sorry). We also do a lot of baking. Mom makes fudge and dad usually makes some sort of chocolate (this year he made choclate chip cookies as well). We also make sugar cookies cut in the shape of trees, stockings, bells, stars, santas, reindeer, and snowmen. We make frosting from scratch and then decorate said sugar cookies. It's a good time all around.
Then on Christmas Eve we go to church. Mom and dad usually go to the 8 service because it's early enough where they can come home and watch A Christmas Carol, like they do every year, and also because it's a traditional service and dad likes those better. Chelsea and I like to go to the midnight service (or 11 pm rather) and do communion and candle light. When we lived in Tulsa there were a couple years where we spent all Christmas Eve at Church because Chelsea would sing at the 5 pm service, then me at the 6:30 service, mom and I at the 8 pm service, and then I would stay and sing at the 11 pm service with a few people from the chiors. :) It was always so much fun though.
Christmas day is always fun. It used to be me who woke Chelsea up in the morning, but now she's usually the one who wakes me up (we agree on a time the night before, unfortunately this year, somehow we settled on 7, probably because my parents didn't protest when Chelsea said we would wake them up at 7). So Chelsea and I go through our stockings, which have been left at the foot of our beds or outside our doors, with each other. Then we go downstairs and wake up the parents and they go through their stockings.
Then we wait while they get dressed and set up the video camera and stuff. Next Chels and I come out to the kitchen and get our big presents... in the past those have been a Game Cube, Donkey Konga, a TV (for me), and when we were younger, a mini roller coaster and a American Girl Kirsten Doll. :) Then we usually tear through the rest of our presents, taking about a half hour at the most. Then mom makes breakfast (I think we're having orange rolls tomorrow... mmm). After that we start cooking Christmas dinner, now that we're older Chelsea and I usually help or do the whole thing ourselves, with help from mom of course.
Dinner is usually ready around 2ish and we all sit down in our formal dining room with the Christmas china. Also, since we're half English, we do Christmas more English style complete with Christmas Crackers. For anyone who deosn't know what those are, they look like big colorful tootsie rolls that two people pull apart and on the inside is a paper crown, a joke or trivia fact, and some little toy. After we're done stuffing our faces we get out the the English cookies!!! The best part ever! And we eat those. :)
Of course the next day is a repeat of the dinner, except, actually at dinner time. Then, on New Year's Day, the Christmas season officially ends. We spend the day snacking on left over sweets, chips and other salty things, crackers, and veggies and fruit. We also take down all the christmas lights outside, the decorations inside, and take everything off the tree. Everything goes back to normal.
This year, I leave to go back to school on the 2nd. Classes start on the 7th, but I'm going up early to work that weekend up there. I'm looking forward to the rest of our traditions though. I'm not sure how many I'll be around for next year, so I'm documenting this whole break with pictures of everything. I've posted them all on my Facebook for people to see. It's a good time. :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

What an amazing night!
So last night was Senior Bar Crawl and we started off with ten people. We went to Jillians first to relax from a long day. After about an hour there (and watching the Bears come back in OT) we headed to Ri Ra's which is an Irish pub downtown. We were there for like two hours, though it really didn't seem like that long. They had a live band playing and since the ten of us made up more than half the patrons we got to have anything we wanted played. So we had them play all the Phi Mu songs we could think of... Come On Eileen, Don't Stop Believing, and just random fun songs. After all that, we had about three people leave and the rest of us went to Fast Eddy's. There was a ton of people there. We had a bunch of fun. Slowly through the night our 7 turned to 5, which turned to 3, and the last 3 left at 3 in the morning when the place closed. It was really funny though because I saw one of my managers there as well as one of the bartenders, and so we hung out a little too. :) This night will be remembered forever! It was amazing!

Excting news!
So, as a few of you know... I got pulled over coming home over Thanksgiving... big surprise there. I was really trying not to speed going home too, but that's another story. Anyways. I also didn't have my updated insurance card, so i got two tickets, and a court date to show my insurance card so I wouldn't have to pay the second one. Well the court date was for December 12th at 1 pm... right during finals. At the time, I was thinking this sucks... I'm gonna see if I can get it changed. I called on Monday and whoever I spoke to said, finals weren't enough of an emergency to change my court date, and they only had it once a month anyways. At the time I was thinking, it's a good thing I really don't have finals that day.
I went to my jury rehearsal last night and realized that my jury for my vocal lessons are on Friday at 3:30. Henry, the place where the court is, is 3 hours away. Obviously that wouldn't work. Well of course, I freaked out. So my parents told me to call again today and speak to the city court clerk, since that is the person who makes the docket. So I did, and i told her that I had a final at the same time in Indiana, where I go to school, and I asked her what my options were. She said she would change my court date to the 16th of Jan at 1pm, but if I didn't show up, my license would be suspended. Well the only thing that i'll have is class. :) I can totally skip class, especially since I know all my profs and they know me. :)
Thank you city court clerk, Tania! You just saved me $104!

Finals
So it's finals time here in Evansville which is a time of crazy parties and quiet studying... how do those two mix? Well let me tell you. We have a dead day every semester before finals. It's called Reading/Study Day and it's the Wednesday before finals begin. There are no classes this day. It's like a Saturday in the middle of the week. :) So that Tuesday night becomes one of the last crazy party nights because no one has anything to do the next day. The theater students have ladies' night and man's night. The fraternities usually open their doors to anyone who wants to come, and there's usually one fraternity/sorority that has their semi-formal/formal that night, and therefore... and after party.
Last night was Sig Ep's semi-formal... Blitzen. I didn't get invited to the dance, but I did get invited to the after party. :) My friends Kellie, Claudia, Jesse, Jason, Andrew, and I all had a good time. Lots of dancing... and maybe some drinking too. ;) Then after everyone recvoers the next day... the studying begins for finals, since finals start on Thursday. So everyone studies like crazy for two days and then take a break on friday and saturday. Then on Sunday the studying begins again until finals are over. As soon as your done you go home for Christmas... of course there are a few brave souls who will have fun before finals. I'm not one of them.
Tomorrow night is senior bar crawl though. It should be a fun time. The seniors are all really excited about this. :) Friday is my first final... it's my voice jury. I'm really nervous and excited for this. Saturday night I'm going to a redneck party with my friend JPatt. I have my next final on monday night, one on tuesday at 12:30, and my last one is on Wed. at 10:15... then i will probably head home and work quite a bit over break. :) Last fall finals ever! AHHH! Scary. :(

Thanksgiving Break!!!
I"m home for Thanksgiving Break. I got home last night around 7:30 and will be here until Sunday sometime. Unless of course I decided to take a random road trip to Chatt and see my friends there... who knows, I might. :) It's good to be home. I brought my Wii home so we can play some Wii tennis!!! I also brought home homework so at least I have the intention of doing it. ;) Chels and I are going to see Twilight tonight, I'm going to try and work either Friday or Saturday, and the other day I'm going to go see James Bond with a friend. I'm ready for some good Thanksgiving foods. Technically, I already had one meal... our Phi Mu alums cooked Thanksgiving for us last Sunday and it was amazing! Not as good as home, but still... it was very very very good. :-D
Classes have been going well. I can't believe the semester is almost over. Only a week and a half left of classes when I get back. I had a a ton of fun last weekend. Amanda, Kellie, and I all went over to Sig Ep for Apocalypse Now, the party on Friday night. It was camo themed, so we all put on some cute camo and hot pink accents and went over. We had a blast. We kind of all did our own thing, and hung together at the same time. We even saw some of our other sisters over there becuase it was an advertised party. Kellie and I went downstairs when it became open and had fun hanging out in the 4-men. :) One of the brothers got so drunk on Friday he passed out on the pool table downstairs with a bar stool and got written on... It was really funny because before that he stole a ladder from another room and tried to sell roofs to a few people.
Saturday I went to the basketball game, Amanda worked at a Wine and Dessert bar and after we watched Casino Royale in a friend's room. :) Sunday was work for me and Thanksgiving dinner that night. Then i went over to Sig Ep to study. Then of course was the short week... yay short weeks.
So that's about all for me. Happy Birthda Aunt Sara... I miss you tons and so do many others here.
Everyone have an amazing Thanksgiving and be safe in your travels!!!

Yay cold weather!
So I love the cold weather. It's getting quite cold here. Today is the warmest it's been in about 2 weeks and the high today is 48. I have a friend from Normal, Illinois who is like, this isn't cold, and has yet to wear pants. Every time i see him he has shorts on. Last night it was 28 degrees outside and we walked over to the volleyball game together, and i was like, you do realize it's below freezing... that usually constitutes time to wear pants, and he's like, no use in putting on pants until it snows. Ummm... ok, w/e.
So I have Bronchitis. I've been been hacking up a lung for about 2 months now. I called into work on Sunday because I had to write a paper, and i used my coughing as an excuse. My boss told me to bring in a doctor's note (are in junior high?). So I went to the health center on monday, and they made an appt w/ the doctor here for wednesday. So i went today and he was like, yup, you have bronchitis... good job. So yay me for bronchitis.
Also, it's volleyball IM season!!! I'm playing on two teams, Phi Mu (women's) and Trojans (Co-ed). My Co-ed team rocks, we've won both games so far. I play with Chris, my ex, and a couple of my friends from Harlaxton. My Phi Mu team is not quite so good. Like 5 of us have played before, which in my mind would make us pretty good, but our goal is to get it over the net... none of this pass, set, hit stuff, which tends to be our downfall. That and we're not so good at working as a team because we have two members who like to be ball hogs and they're not good enough to be ball hogs, not even close.
On the academic front, it's been crazy. Yesterday I had a 6 page paper or WWII POWs due and amedia contacts list with 25 media contacts on it. I researched for the paper all last week, but my weekend was insane. Friday was Work, Saturday was Initiation, fmaily dinner, and homecoming, Sunday was supposed to be work, then exec meeting, then formal meeting with elections, and elections take about 5 hours on avg. I tried to work on my paper Saturday night, but my brain was not into working on it. Sunday i started working on it at 11:30, but nothing wsa coming to my mind, so i wrote an outline, got done with the outline about 6, and then went to formal meeting until 11:30 (yay elections). Amanda and I went out for a midnight snack afterwards so about 12:30 i got back and worked on my paper. About 5 am I finally got done and went to bed. got up at 8 for class, monday I spent the day working on my media contacts list, headlines, and audio homework. I had volleyball that night, and after i had a text msg from my friend stephanie. Her mom wsa in the hospital with chest pains, so i went over and gave her some company and we watched forrest gump. So about 1:30 i went back to working on it, and about 5:30 I went to bed. Got up at 9:30 so i could finish wokring on it, and then skipped lunch to finish it and was two minutes late to class because the printer i was using on campus was out of paper.
Last night was my just relax/sleep night. I went bowling with m firend luke and bowled a 78... woot! (sad thing is, that's with 2 strikes). Then i had volleyball. We lost. I was going to go to bed around 11 last night, but Luke asked if i wanted to watch a movie, so I was like sure, and so he came over, and finally, about 2, I went to bed. Honestly, I'm surprised I lasted that long though. Oh the life of a college student. Tonight is work, then volleyballat 10:15 if i get off in time, then bed.

Relaxing/Rejuvenating Weekend
Just warning y'all... this post jumps around.
So on Friday I had a mental break down, again. I was crying in class. I went to talk to a counselor about it, and we just kinda talked about everything going on right now. Especially the fact that I'm a senior (which scares the crap out of me). I told her that I registered for classes for the last time on Monday, and that was sad. It's kind of hitting me, everything I'm doing is for the last time. Last night was the last time I will particiapte in Rock for Riley... I don't know if I'm ok with that. It's weird. Anyways. I still wasn't feeling well so I called my friend Steph and we went and grabbed some lunch. After that I went to class with her b/c I know the teacher and he didn't care. After that we went to Wal-mart, and then it was time for work. I came home and got ready, and just started crying. I couldn't stop. My roommate, Amanda was like, ummm... you're not going to work today, so i called in sick. I called Steph and told her I wasn't going in and she came over.
We decided to take this dog she was looking after for a walk. We walked for like an hour. It was nice. When we got back I had dinner, which to be perfectly honest was the first time I'd actually felt like eating anything all week. Amanda came back from dinner and invited Steph and i to SCF, so we all went and spent like an hour and a half there. Afterwards we were like, let's go crash a high school football game just b/c we can. We drove around for like a half hour before realizing that it was November, and most high school seasons were over. We decided that we would run by the dollar theater and see what was playing. There was a movie, "Burn After Reading" that we all kinda wanted to see, and it started at 9:30 (it was 9:25) so it was perfect. We went in and got our seats and the movie started. For teh next two hours all three of us were staying at the screen going... "what is going on?" but laughing so hard, b/c it was hilarious! Afterwards we were like, that was amazing! We drove back to school, and Steph got her car and went home. At this point, it was about 11:30.
Amanda is in her Senior Sem class right now, which means she's in the middle of writing her thesis, which is due Monday at 5, just in case you were wondering, :). She had been working on it all day pretty much,a dn she was going to work on it again, but that movie ave us this great idea. We decided we would throw a party for all of our firends, sometime this semester, and watch that movie, just b/c it's so funny. We decided we needed to go tell some of our friends at Sig Ep, so at 11:30, we were like, ok let's go, but we won't stay long. Amanda wanted to get up and work on her Thesis, and i was going to get up and work on other homework. We went over and were talking ot people. We were dancing, and having a good time. We were just hanging out. The last 45 minutes we were just sitting in Cedric's room talking. It was the best night ever, and it made me feel so much better. We ended up leaving around 2. :) Ooops.
Saturday, Amanda was going to get up at 9 and i was going to get up at 10. I got up at 10, and she wasn't up yet. She got up when she heard me up though. I grabbed a shower, and turned on Rookie of the Year. Amanda decided to watch the movie with me, so it was a good time. Then I had a wedding to go to. Phi Mu's chapter advior, Shelly McFall (also the head coach of the softball team i helped with last year) got married. It was a beautiful ceremony. Shelly looked gorgeous, and my favorite part was her shoe choice... softball cleats. :) I am totally going to do that! After the weddign was the reception where I pretty uch scarfed down my meal in 15 minutes because I had to drive back to campus for Rock 4 Riley.
For those of you who don't know, my sorority's philanthropy is Children's Miracle Network, the money we raise goes to a local hospital, Riley Hospital for Children, up in Indy. We hold two events a year. In the Spring it's UEDM (University of Evansville Dance Marathon) and all night party essentially. We play games, have bands, crafts, etc... In the fall, we do my favorite, Rock 4 Riley. R4R is a lip synching contest. Some themes we have done in the past include, TV theme songs, Disney, and 90s. This year was "A Night at the Movies: A Pink Carpet Affair" (b/c our colors are rose and white). I love R4R b/c it is so hilarious. This year we had 8 teams, and 5 advanced to the final round. My favorite was Sig Ep, and I'm not just syaing that. They were the best. They did "Oh Maria" from Sister Act. Imagine 15 guys dressed up in hand made black cloth held together with staples and plain t-shirts on their heads. It was hilaroius. They were jumping around, and basically they're dance was amazing. they came in second. Our Phi class came in first in the crowd pleaser award though. that was exciting. After that, we went and watched the last 5 minutes of the UE soccer game with the entire Sig Ep chapter, but the thing was, anytime they would shift their weight, the bleacher we were stnading on would shift too, and Amanda and i were in heels, and so we almost fell liek 5 times.
We came back and Amanda went back to work on her Thesis. I asked if we were going to go out that night and she said she didn't know. About 12:30 I asked if i was putting on jeans or pjs and she said jeans. We both agreed that we weren't going to stay past 1:30 b/c she needed to get up and work on her thesis and i had to go to work. As soon as we walked in the door though one of my guy friends (who said he wasn't drink any mor euntil next semester) came up to us drunk, and I mean completely trashed. So we walked him back to his room where he continued his search for green shorts and a green shirt. We went upstairs. We hung out and were talking to people, and then we ran into my friend again, and I pretty much spent the next hour and a half or so hanign out with him to make sure he didn't do anything too stupid.
Finally, about 2, we got him to his room where he passed out on his couch. His roomates closed up the room and me and Amanda stayed to talk to one of our friends who was in there. Within the next hour, one of the brothers, a very very tall freshman (think Chris, my ex) pretty much broke the door down three times and came in yelling for his buddy who was passed out on the couch. Even with three of us we could barely get him out. Around 3, we went upstairs to get our jacket where we ran into some more friends and started talking again. About 4, we got kicked out of the third room b/c they wanted to go to bed, and Amanda and I decided we should go home. So we finally got home aroun 4:30 and were in bed by 5. She woke up at 9 to continue work on her Thesis, and I got up at 10 to head to work.
Today i went to work, and we were actually busy. Only made $35 though, but it's a Sunday morning. Oh well. Then I had meetings tonight, and after that I finally went to the library to check out some books for my paper comparing and contrasting concentration camps in WWII, which is due a week from tuesday. I didn't open a single one tonight though. I did however waste 2 hours on facebook and get my 6 cover letters done, rewrite an article, and get a study guide done. Tomorrow it's back to class after a pretty relaxing/rejuvenating weekend. I'm feeling much better than i did on Friday. I'm still not 100% but I'm doing better. Which is good. :)
Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. I know I've been vague, but sometimes it's good to be vague. Please continue to keep me there, especially as I begin applying for jobs for next semester... i can't believe I might have a big girl job next semester. :-/ Have a good evening everyone.

Happy Halloween!!!
I hope everyone had a good one. I did. it was absolutely gorgeous here yesterday, and so in the afternoon, i went outside and enjoyed it. Stephanie stopped by and we chatted for a while. I had to go to work that night, so I went back home and got changed for work. We got to wear our costumes last night, so I dressed up in my referee and made it a little demure for work. I think that costume is good luck at work. I made $67 last night which is the most I have ever made in 2-top Heaven, and I think I made more than most of the other servers. Go me. :) Then I came home and got a little sexier, and Amanda, her friend Brook, and I all went over to Sig Ep for their Halloween party, which was actually their date party, go figure. I had a lot of fun last night. I drank a little too much, and so Amanda had to help me home, but it was still a good time.
Today is laundry/clean my room day! Yay! This afternoon is the Sig Ep pledge auction, and I'm going to go buy my friend. It should be a fun time. Then tonight is Semi-Formal. I'm really excited. It'll be a lot of fun. Hope everyone had a good day yesterday and has a good weekend.

crazy days
So apparently after Fall Break my life ceased to exist. I've been going from one hing to another, and when i get a chance to relax I rarely do. So here's a short run down of all the important things going on here:
The weather skipped fall and went from summer to winter. Today the high was 44 degrees. Yesterday I played flag football in 40 degree weather. It was cold, very very cold. I am liking the cold weather a lot though. I'm breaking out all the warm clothes, although I'm running out so this Saturday is laundry day.
I'm working pretty steadily at the Roadhouse. I work Wed. nights, Fri and Sat nights, and Sunday mornings. Unless, of course, I ask off for one of those days, which includes the next 3 Saturdays!!! Oh well. I make ok tips there, they average out I think.
I'm passing all my classes, which is always a plus. I kinda don't care about Basic Reporting because it doesn't matter if i try my hardest or not i still get a 'C'. I'm kinda like w/e for that. PR is starting to get a little harder as more work is being do. I'm still loving history, just finished my presentation in there last week, next thing do is a paper. Theory has turned into research and concentrating more on our research proposals. Audio is just a 3 hour homework period for me. Voice is amazing. I'm beginning to memorize my songs for my jury at the end of the semester.
Our flag football team is 1 and 2 now, which is all sorts of fun. I enjoy playing/running around. :) I like to go to other teams games as well. Sig Ep has two 'B' teams, one of actives and one of pledges. They played each other last week and the actives won 45 to 14. They played again tonight, and the pledges beat the actives 36 to 33. The actives were not very happy. I'm sure the pledges heard about that later this evening.
This Friday is Halloween and I have been invited to a closed Halloween Party at Sig Ep, which I am really excited about! I am going to be a referee for halloween. I've got a really cute costume and everything. :) On Saturday is Carnation Ball. Amanda and I are having our dates over for dinner before we leave. It should be a good time. I'm really excited about that too.
Last weekend Sugarland played on Friday night, and one of the country stations came to the roadhouse to give away free tickets form 4 to 6 so at 5:30 we had a 60 to 75 minute wait on our hands. Then after work on Saturday night I went over to Sig Ep to hang out with some buddies. it was a good time.
In other words, somehow I'm managing to maintain a balance b/t my school work, my social life, and my actual work. Don't ask how, just go with it. I'm loving life right now and living each day the best I can. I'm in a great place right now. Everything seems to be going my way, and I'm pretty content.

Fall break
So the past two days have been Fall Break for me. I've decided Fall Break is an illusion. It's just two days of no classes that school gives you in the middle of the semester to get caught up in all of your classes. I had a lot of fun though.
I drove home Friday night, picking up Gavin, my cousin Erin's 20 mo. son, on the way. We got to baby-sit him Friday night through Saturday night while Erin was at a wedding in McKenzie, TN. Gavin didn't cry a single bit while in the car, but as soon as we got out of the car and into the house, and he realized mommy wasn't there he started crying. So we turned on Cars, his favorite movie, and he forgot about pretty much everything else. There were very little troubles the rest of the weekend. That night I went out with a friend. We went and played pool and darts. It was fun.
Saturday was the OU-Texas game... boo Longhorns (especially since they won). I worked on my Public Relations homework while I watched it. We also took Gavin to the pumpkin patch and got him a new toy car, which was inadvertantly left at our house. That night we celebrated dad's 50th birthday, a week late, but still. We had spaghetti, french bread, and blackberry pie and ice cream. It was very good. Gavin loved the blackberry pie. it was so cute. he'd get up on the chair and say "bite" to my mom, who would give him a bite, and then he would get down and go play, and then come back and repeat the process. That night Erin came in and we chilled that night. it was cool.
Sunday I went to church with my mom and sister and Erin and Gavin. Erin and Gavin left for home. My computer was confiscated for the day to run virus scans. I spent the day chillaxin' and watching tv. :) I got my computer back that night and rewrote my University Relations article for Basic Reporting.
Monday I spent the day at mom's school giving out surveys for my Adidas campaign for my public relations campaign. That night a friend and I went out to see Eagle Eye. It was an amazing movie. Then We went to Texas Roadhouse where I got caught up on the latest gossip I had missed in the two months I had been gone. After that we went over to his place to watch You've Got Mail. It was a lot of fun.
Today I pretty much got up, took my time getting everything together, and then proceeded to drive 5 hours back to school. For some reason the cops were out in full force today, more than usual, so it actually took me 5 hours to get home. Sad day. I got back, and met Stephanie, who had my ID so she could get a meal earlier that day when the new student center opened, and we went over to the new student center and explored. It is amazing! When you're inside it, you feel like you actually go to a big school. It's so cool. I love it, and it was totally worth the inconvience of a year and a half of construction, almost. Now, I'm continuing to do homework, and getting ready to go to bed. Hope everyone had a great weekend/beginning of the week!

ice skating in the kitchen
SO tonight, Amanda and I were taking a break from watching Gilmore Girls, were on about 7 episodes right now, and we decided to slide on the kitchen floor. I seriously haven't done that since I was a little kid. It was so much fun. We were both sliding back and forth in the kitchen, and at one point we even slid into each other. that was kind of fun. We were sliding and screaming and laughing. At one point, we both slid, I went towards the fridge and she went towards the pantry. Her feet got in front of her body and she went right into the pantry door. She knocked it off the hinges. She fell down laughing. It was sooo funny. She wasn't hurt. It was just really funny.
Another fun thing... I got her sick. I've been sick for the past two weeks, coughing real bad. That's it just coughing, but it was really really annoying. Now she's caught it. I feel bad for her, but she's doing ok. Today was so interesting. I had a class form 9 to 9:50 and that was it. That was the only thing I had to do all day. It was o nice having a lazy day. Although technically it wasn't completely lazy since I did do some homework. It was so cool. Anyways, that was my day.

Chocolate covered bacon anyone?
So the past couple weeks have been crazy in my apartment. Between the four of us we have had tests, papers, and general craziness happening. I think between the four of us we've had about 10-12 tests in the past two weeks, and 3 - 4 papers due. Not to mention three of us have sorority stuff, and two of us have exec sorority stuff! Ugh! All I can say is I will be glad to be done with exec. :-D I myself just got done with my second mid-term. My first one was yesterday in Media Theory and Research. I think I did ok on that one. He told us it would be broad, but this was way broad.
Today I had my WWII midterm. It was 20 short answer questions and 2 essays in 75 minutes. The 20 questions were to test our factual knowledge that we had gotten from the book. Now I read all 14 chapters in that book, I'm pretty certain this is the only class I've ever kept up on my reading for in any class ever, and I even take notes! Yet, I still didn't know half those quesitons! And he told us that if we missed more than 2 we couldn't get an A on the test, and I left at least 3 or 4 blank and got a few others wrong. As I was walking back to my room about 3 hours later, Irememebred an answer to a question I had left blank. I hate it when that happens.
I also turned in my problem statement and situational analysis for my Adidas campaign in Strategic PR. I'm having a lot of fun in there, my campign is centered around "comfort zone" so we'll see hwo well that works out. And other than my reporting class, which is not just kicking my butt, but rubbing it in my face as well, all is going well. I turned in 30 academic hours for last week, which is about 26 hours of studying and 4 hours of tutoring.
As a rewards for keeping up on my studies, me and my friend Stephanie went to Fall Festival tonight. Now Fall Festival is like a fair, but instead of being all about the rides or all about the best pig/pie/vegetable/cow/whatever, it's all about the food. Sure they have rides there, not a ton, but some good ones, and they have a talent show and stuff like that, but the food is the main event. It's why most people go down there. They have about 4 blocks lined on both sides of the streets with booths of food. Everything from your regular stuff: hotdogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, funnel cakes, bar-ba-que, sausage, ect.. and the not so reglar stuff: fried cookie dough, fried mac n cheese, alligator, Pig toes, Chocolate covered crickets, fried oreos, banana canoes, chocolate covered strawberries, buckeyes and of course chocolate covered bacon. Now I think that last one was new this year, I don't remember it from last year, but it sounded interesting, and I like bacon, and I like chocolate, so I decided I would try it. It wasn't bad, but after about one and a half, I was done with it. It was just sooo... something. I don't even know what it was.
Stephanie and I also played the mouse game, where you put your quarters on a color, and they let a mouse loose in a wheel of fortune looking thing, and hich ever color hole it goes in, that color wins, and if your quarter is on that color, you win! YAY!!! I didn't win. Neither did Stephanie. We also went on teh Himalaya, and all I can say is, the announcer makes the ride, I miss the guy at Bells. So now I'm relaxing before I work on my Lit Review tomorrow for my Media Theory and Research class. Yay fun times. This weekend is Fall break, and I'm looking forward to going home. I'll probably work the entire time, but oh well.

beautiful day
So today is an absolutely gorgeous day in Evansville. The high was in the mid - low 70s. It was sunny. I'm very tempted to go outside and do homework, but I know I would be less likely to study outside. We were supposed to have our first play-off game tonight for IM soccer tournament tonight, but it was moved to Wednesday on Monday b/c apparently lots of people complained. Last night it rained though, so a lot of the games were canceled, and all those games were moved to Wednesday, so our games was moved to Thursday. and if we win that, then we play on mOnday for the championship! Woo Hoo! I would be happy if we won. :) So tonight, in addition to Phi Mu stuff, I have quite a bit fo homework... everytime I seem to get close to being caught up, the more stuff gets piled on, ugh! I am nothing compared to Amanda who probably won't be sleeping this week. I really hope I don't have a point like that this semester, but I'm sure I will.

Family Weekend
So this weekend was Family Weekend at UE. It was fun. My mom and sister, and sister's best friend came down to hang out. They got in on Friday night, but I had to work until close on Friday, so they went to the hotel and went to bed. The next morning, I met them at 9am at their hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, we went to my apartment, and showed them around. I was proud to show it off. This is the best living situation I've been in. We each have our own rooms, which is nice if we want to get away, but we still hang out in the living room and stuff. Anyways, then I gave them a tour of the campus, b/c quite a bit has changed since mom and Chels were here last, and Danielle has never been here, so it was cool. I showed them the new student center, which is almost done, and the new business building. Then we went grocery shopping, and got some gas. After that, we hung out and played Wii a little. Then we went to the mall for a while and dinner at Chile's. And then they left. They had obligations this morning, so I came home and passed out about 10. I was so tired. It was nice though. This morning, I woke up, and was so sore. I couldn't figure out why. I think it was from playing the Wii yesterday. So I took a shower, and turned on the football games, and have been chilling out. I have a meeting today at 2, but I have to be there at 2, a meeting at 4:30, and a meeting at 6:30. Joy to me! Somewhere in there, I need to do homework that I have put off all weekend. Go me. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

ladies night
So on Tuesday night I played an IM soccer game, which we won, and then last night, we played 2 IM games back-2-back. We won both and were completely exhausted by the end of it. The second game was against Femme Fubar, which is the theater IM team. They're pretty pushy, so not only did I get tripped and hurt my knee, elbow, and arm, but Amanda got taken out of the game with a bad shoulder injury.
So after the games, i jumped in the shower and Amanda iced her shoulder, and we got ready and went over to one of the frat houses for ladies night. It was fun. I think we were there for a total of 40 minutes tops. When we walked in the door, Amanda and I had a shot of Kamakaze, a vodka and lemonade, and then went to another room and a shot of Kalooa (sp?). I didn't like it since it tasted like coffee, but Amanda loved it. I saw a friend pass the door and I went to go say hi, and when I returned Amanda had done 2 more shots.
Then we started walking around again, and we stopped by a room with this guy I like in it. So we stopped in and started talking, Amanda was pretty far gone, and about 5 minutes after being in there, Amanda was like, I'm going to sit down, let me know when you want to leave. When I looked over at here, she was laying down, and so I turned to the guy I was tlaking to and said that I better get her home. Now, I was a little drunk, but not nearly that bad. So I got Amanda up, and got her home, and into bed. Then I went to bed.
I was awoken this morning by Amanda with zero color in her face, apparently she had thrown up 3 times already. She had chugged the water I set out next to her (not a good idea, if you've ever been drunk you know this... i learned this in Edinburgh). So I spent the hour before class taking care of her some more. It was interesting. She feels better now, which is good, and will no tbe touching alcohol for a while.
So this weekend is family weekend, and mom and chels, and chels's friend Danielle are coming up. I'm excited to see them. That's about all for now. Just had to tell my funny story. Tonight I am studying, going to a meeting, and going to watch a soccer game. Woo hoo! Hope everyone has had a good week.

A typical weekend at college....
So this weekend was jut your typical average weekend at school...
Friday night I went to work, and got off at 8 (an occurrence I'm not expecting to happen again anytime soon), and then went to see "The Women" with my roommates Sam, Emily, and Amanda. It was so much fun. It was a chick flick through and through, and I highly suggest it, if only to hear the line, "Would you like a face lift in a jar?" "This is my face, deal with it." :) After the movie we walked out to my car to find a big green bug sitting on the hood, and a smaller one on top. Well we figured it would fall off while I was driving back to school, but as I pulled out of the parking lot, the bug was still there. I then proceeded to try to knock the bug off with some encouragement from my roommates, and believe it or not, that little bug stayed on all the way back home, and the little one on top did too. We were shocked!!! Then we proceeded to watch a few episodes of Gilmore Girls.
Saturday the plan was to get up, do some chores, studying, laundry, and grocery shopping, but I got a phone call from my friend Stephanie asking me to meet her for lunch at Cici's, her treat. Well, really, how can you turn that down? Then we went to Bed, Bath and Beyond, b/c they were having a sale, and Steph had a coupon. Then we went back to my place to get Amanda, and we proceeded to Plato's closet, since it was having a major sale, and all proceeded to spend too much money on amazing designer clothes for cheap such as a gap shirt for $4, a limited shirt for $6, a pair of American Eagle jeans for $12, ect... After that, we dropped Steph off at her car, and proceeded to Wal-Mart where Amanda and I were stopped in the parking lot by a cute guy trying to sell us stuff (go figure). He had a great line though, "You've got something in your eye" Amanda: "I do?" (tries to get it out) "A twinkle." Smooth, real smooth. So we went grocery shopping b/c we had little to zero food left, and then went back home and cooked dinner and went to passover.
Passover is the Fraternities version of bid day. It's where the men who rushed come out and show who they pleged and then proceed to jump on their new brothers and get passed over them. Of course, on top of that, all the brothers are painted head to toe in their fraternity colors. I love Sig Ep, so I was cheering the loudest for them. After that, we came back home to chill out before the parties, and I got a text msg from steph saying she had caught her kitchen on fire. i went over to her apartment (b/c she was going ot join us tonight) and made sure she was ok and brought some of the stuff she had bought earlier, but left in my car. She told me, she would join us later, and I went home and got ready. I think it took us about an hour to get ready. We went to SAE first, and got there about 11:15. We were greeted by a friend when we walked in who got us some Summer Brew, which tasted pretty good, a little like cide rin fact. It wasn't though, not at all... it was a case of beer, vodka, lime juice, and lemonade. A red solo cup of that and Amanda and I were both feeling it, her more than me. We then went to Sig Ep, and spent about an hour there. We met up with one of her small groupers who pledged Sig Ep, Matt. Then we came home and went to bed.
So Amanda and I had both signed up to do Race for the Cure this morning, but neither of us set our alarms to get up... ooops. So we both slept in. Amanda did get up and go to church though. I got up around noon, and got my laundry together, and walked out with my laundry card, my ID, and my laundry stuff. Well, when I got to the laundry room, I put my ID in the machine instead of my laundry card and got locked out of my room for about an hour... i didn't have my cell phone with me either. After I finally got into my room, I did the dishes and took a shower, and then had to go to Exec meeting for Phi Mu. Next was Formal meeting.
When I got back, I proceeded to finally work on homework, and about 9, Amanda and I decided we wanted to study outside. We went to a newly renovated place on campus and sat out here and studied until about 11:30 when we decided we'd call Matt, and tell him to bring us some food, but it took him so long, that we finally just went into Hale ourselves to meet him. We spent the next hour and half not studying at all, and then decided we needed to go home and go to bed. Amanda and I were walking back and noticed there was zero traffic at the intersection on Weinbach and Walnut (that never happens). So we decided to pull a "Notebook" the scene where they lie down in the middle of the street and watch the lights change, except we didn't lay down (too paranoid) so we just sat. During that time, a car came by and got stopped by the red light and looked at us. He waved, and kinda just looked at us, he didn't even notice his light was green until I pointed to it. It was really really funny. About a half hour after that, a security guard came around and asked waht we were doing, and we said we were watching the lights, and he was like, umm... could you not do that in the middle of the street, and we just laughed, and said sure. :) Now I'm back in my room gettign ready to go to bed, so I can actually be awake tomorrow. :)
Good night all, and welcome to college. :)

So the top one is Taylor Swift, she's in bottom right hand corner in the blue shiny dress.
The one next to it is me and Amanda at the concert
The middle left one is JoeDon, Gary, and Joe (the Rascal Flatts) singing
The middle right one, you can kinda see how the stage is set up, and 1 of the 4 giant screens. they had.
The bottom left one is the Rascal Flatts singing.

An Amazing Night!!!
So last night was the Rascal Flatts concert! It was absolutely amazing!!! Amanda and I left about 3 central time and got to Louisville around 6 eastern time. The concert started at 8, so we decided to meet one of our alum sorority sisters for dinner. We were going to meet her at the Hard Rock Cafe, and so we found somewhere to park and walked down to the Hard Rock Cafe. When we got to the top of the street there was people standing there handing out wristbands, and we were like, ummm... what now. Turns out the Ryder Cup is in town and the had blocked off that street (which is similar to Beale, just shorter) and you had to buy a $5 Ryder's cup pin to get onto the street. We were like... umm.. that's ok. So we found another resturaunt, The Old Saghetti Factory, and met Shelley there. So we had a quick dinner, and briefly caught up, and then Amanda and I had to continue onto the concert.
So we got to the concert, which was at the Expo center, and immediately hit major traffic getting in, but we got in pretty quickly considering, and we found a spot to park, and we got into Freedom Hall without very much trouble at all. We were sitting on the upper level not straight back, but kind of in a corner. Before we went to our seats though,w ewent to the bathroom, in which there was already a line out the door for. Go figure. So we found our seats and there were girls sitting in them, so we got the usher to take care of it for us, and basically as soon as we sat down the concert started (we timed it good).
First up was Taylor Swift, and she played for about 45 minutes, she played all her hits. That was the main person Amanda came for. The stage was amazing... There was the main stage, and then it came out on the sides and created a walkway about 50 feet from the main stage so the band could walk around, and in side that walkway area fans were sitting... sooo jealous, fyi. Anyways, then there was about a hlaf hour intermission while the got the Rascal Flatts stage set up. Amanda and I went to go get some t-shirts before the smalls were all sold out. That was exciting.
Anyways we came back and waited for the concert to begin, and then they did, and it was sooo cool. Words cannot even describe. For example the entrance was ladden with fireworks and stirs coming down from teh ceiling where they were. It was amazing. That's all I can say about it. They played for about an hour and a half, so the concert was done around 11 eastern time. Then the fun part came fo getting out of the parking lot, which took a half hour, but it gave us time to get a hold of another sister living in Louisville, who never answers her phone.
We got a hold of Mel, and said lets go to Starbucks and chill, but the Starbucks we orginially were looking for didn't exist and so we had one of our friends on the phone giving us directions to another one, which we found, but it was closed. So we met her in the Kroger parking lot behind the Starbucks. But it was a little cold, and Amanda had to go to the bathroom, so we decided to go to a Denny's we had passed earlier. So we made our way to the Denny's and each had really random things. I had some bacon, toast, and a slice of pumpkin pie with apple juice. Amanda had some really really really cheesy cheese fries and some sort of mago-cherry drink. Mel had an oreo milkshake. We had a blast catching up. We were there for aout an hour just talking. Our server kept giving us weird looks b/c we'd ordered such strange things, but we had fun with him. We decided that the Denny's in the crrepy part of Louisville, where we were, will forever be a commerative spot. :)
Then Amanda and I drove home and got back around 2:30. We both had class in the morning, so we pretty much passed out as soon as we got back. So that was my amazing night, and today I start back at Texas Roadhouse up here. Joy to me, but roommate night is tonigth and we're going ot go see The Women. :) Hope everyone had a good week and A good weekend.

New girls and Ike
So my day began very interesting. I woke up around 7 to fire truck after fire truck after fire truck going by for about the next 5 hours. I also heard what sounded like pouring down rain, but it wasn't. In fact, it was 60 mile per hour gusts of wind! Hurricane Ike had come to Indiana with a vengeance. When I got up and went walking around their were trees down every where and a few power lines. In fact, a few houses had caution tape around them because of the amount of damage that was done. Trees and power lines are down all over the city. A few of the university buildings are without power including my apartment building from last year and the sorority suites. In fact, one of my classes has been canceled because my teacher had damage done to his house by the wind. Woo hoo!
Today is also the day that we got our new girls. :-D After all the annoyingness of recruitment it all comes down to this afternoon when we watched our new girls walk in the door. It was so exciting! Then, the excitement slowly dies down and we got to see who our new girls were... there were a few familiar faces, but many of the girls we loved had gone somewhere else. The girls we got I think are going to be good as well, but I'm still a little worried. I learned some things that I kind of think I would have rather been in the dark about. I can't do anything about it now though. All we can do is make the best of what we have.
I am very ready to be a regular student, and not a Phi Mu all the time student. I think it's jsut because recruitment wore me out. I am so looking forward to Thursday though!

fun things!
So about 2 or 3 weeks ago I found out that Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift are preforming in Louisville on the 18th of September. At the time I thought, wouldn't that be the coolest concert to see? I bet I can't get anyone to go with me (I usually seem to be the only one with money of my friends). So I've had it in the back of my mind for a while now. The other day I mentioned to my roommate Amanda that they were playing, and she was like we should totally go! I was way excited. I looked up ticket prices and they were about $60 including the convience charge. I told her and she was like... let's do it! I was like SWEET!!!! So today I bought the tickets and we are offically going to Louisville to see a concert, for the most part, on a whim. :) Oh, and if you haven't figured it out yet, the 18th is on a Thursday. It's a week from today in fact. We are leaving about 2:45 and will get there around 5:45 (2 hour drive, but they're an hour ahead). The concert is at 8, so we're going to eat dinner with some friends who live in Louisville. After the concert we'll drive back because we each have class the next morning, mine at 9 and hers at 10.
The best part about it is, that Recruitment ends on Sunday, which means I'll be able to get caught up on all my homework, and not have to worry about it that night. Woot!
Speaking of recruitment... we had our first night last night. It was so good. All the girls did great talking to the PNMs (potential new members), and pretty much everything went off perfectly. Now let's talk numbers. We have 47 women currently in our chapter (we lost a lot of seniors). 3 of those women are in Harlaxton, another 7 are Gamma Chis meaning they are technically unaffiliated until Sunday. So that leaves 37. Last night we had 11 with night classes, so that left us with 26 women. 4 of us are rotation leaders, dropping us to 22, and we have 2 refernce chairmen, 20, and our membership director isn't allowed to talk to women, 19. About 130 women signed up to go through recruitment. Each party has an average of 26 women in it. Obviously 19 to 26 is not a good ratio. So inorder to help with this delima, we had some sisters from Indiana University (Delta Alpha chapter) to help us with recruitment. That was pretty cool. We got to hear about their recruitment, which is a little different.
So last night went pretty well. We had a few girls that had to take doubles, but that's ok, b/c it was a lot fewer than would have had to. It's kind of akward to be in a double though. I wa sin one when I went through, and I'm pretty shy, so I didn't really talk a lot, and it's hard on the other side b/c you have to keep the PNMs engaged, and if they have completely opposite interests, it's hard.
Tonight will be better, we only have 3 or 4 with night classes, so that's good. Tonight it philnathropy night when they hear about our national philanthropy (Children's Miracle Network), our local philanthropy (Riley Hospital for Children), and out finances (how much their bill will be).
So yeah, that's about it. The only other exciting thing about today was that we had a really good discussion on whether the interent is a good source of propaganda, and we deicded yes and no. Hope everyone has a good day and a good weekend.

I love Footprints in the Sand. My friend Joana sung it to TJ and Rachel at their rehearsal dinner, and I have loved it ever since. I dunno why it's been on my mind lately, but it has been. I tried to suggest it for our senior song, but Carrie Underwood's "Whenever You Remember" won out. It's cool though. I like that one a lot too. I should have put it on here. Oh well.
I'm making a playlist of songs that kind of represent me and ones that I really just like. It's kind of fun actually. I've spent that past hour or so on a site called playlist.com. It's absolutely amazing. You can type in any work or artist and searches the web for any sites containing those songs. I love it. Now I'm going ot go fill out paperwork for the TRH up here. Joy to me. :)

As I sit here studying for a quiz I have in less than 12 hours, I am listening to classical music in hopes that all the studies are true and you remember more when you listen to it. I also thought it would keep me more on task because then I wouldn't be singing along with every song and getting distracted. I've spent the whole weekend doing Phi Mu stuff, and I will spend the entire week doing the same, and at this point, I"m kind of in the "whatever" stage. It's almost over. Earlier I was reading through my planner trying to find what chapters my quiz was over, and something else caught my eye... "5 story ideas for Sept. 19 article due at 9 am"... crap. I've spent part of my night thinking or article ideas, and here's what I came up with:
1. Race For the Cure (Sept. 21) - What is it and how is UE participating?
2. How UE sororities prepared for their new members.
3. Is sleep really necessary for a college student -- student's busy schedules and they keep themselves organized.
4. Do Orientation Leaders really keep up with their small groups and how?
5. Student's thoughts on the presidential candidates and their VPs.
Surely one of those will work. Well anyways. I just thought I'd pop on and write something, not really b/c I had anything to say, but really because I'm still getting off topic because my Mass Communications Theory book is really hard to read at 11:45 at night. :) Yay for a presentation on Tuesday, a test and my preliminary topic for my research proposal due on Friday, and Recruitment every night this week. I really think number 3 applies to me. :)

UGH!!!
Ugh, I studied my butt of for this "quiz". I put quiz in quotations, b/c he just calls it a quiz, it's really a test, a test that we have every stinking Friday! Stupid Basic Reporting! When in the world does he think i have the time to read four newspapers front pages articles? Does he really think all college students have an abundance of time. Well, maybe regular ones do, but sorority members don't, oh and half our class is in a Greek organization!
So this test... 13 sentences with anywhere form 1 to 6 errors that could either be spelling errors, AP Style errors, or News errors. I'm fairly certain I got all the spelling errors, but the rest I pretty much sucked at. If you've never hear of AP Style it's the Associated Press Style. It's the style that all reporters use. For example in AP Style it is "all right" never "alright". Anyways, the AP Style book is very similar to a dictionary. This weeks test was over the As and Bs (about 40 pages total). No it's not like a reading a book. And the news! I mean, I've been scanning the headlines, and listening to CNN in all my spare time (HA!), and yet I missed the article about how the Pike Central football (not basketball) coach committed suicide and on a larger note, I missed the articles about Bush sending $1 billion (not $1 million, or $10 million as I corrected) to Georgia and the one about how we have an Embargo on Cuba (not the Bahamas) b/c of Gustav. Oh and of course I didn't know that The mayor of New Orleans is C. Ray Nagin (not Nagan)!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure, that I along with the rest of the class made a 'C' or below. On the bright side, I'm 100% certain I got all the US states right.
Needless to say I am not in a good mood, no am I very pleased with my sorority. Oh and I would like to mention that on Monday I have a quiz, on Tuesday I have a presentation, and next Friday I have another test, and my sorority practices go something like this...
Friday - 5-7 and everyone is required to attend TKE's Glamour Girl from 7 -9
Saturday - Practice 9 -9 and then a party form 11 to midnight
Sunday- practice 2-9 (if Fox doesn't change it b/c she feels we're not ready enough)
Monday - practice 7-9 (which I actually get to miss b/c of a night class from 6-9)
Tuesday - practice 7-9
Wednesday - intro night, 5 party min. 4:30-10 (if we're lucky)
Thursday - Philanthropy night, 5 party min., first night selections 4:30 - 11:30 (if we're lucky)
Friday - Theme night, 4 party min., second night selections 4:30 - 1 am (if we're lucky)
Saturday - Pref night, 2 party min. not for sure about the times, but it will be around 2 to 7, and then we go to Olive Garden until 9ish
Sunday - Bid Day, 2 - 8? (if we're lucky)
Yeah, and I'm supposed to study when???

Life as a student
Yesterday while I was reading for WWII I fell asleep, but it was only for 20 minutes, so all was good, and i retrieved my laundry before it got pulled out by someone who wanted my dryer. After that I went to the Labor Day picnic, because that's the school's way of making up for not giving us the day off of classes. Then i went to my night class. After my waaaaay boring audio production class with my very bitter professor (He recently got fired from his real job at a radio station), I went with my roommate Amanda to see House Bunny. It's a new movie out about a playboy bunny that becomes a house mother for a sorority. It's kind of controversial on our campus currently because the two main sororities are Zeta Alpha Zeta, Zeta for short, and Phi Iota Mu. The reason this so controversial is because two of the sororities on Evansville's campus is Zeta Tau Alpha, Zeta for short, and Phi Mu (my sorority). In the movie, Zeta is a bunch girls who are waaay weird and through the movie they get a make over and become these really hot girls who everyone pays attention to, but in the end they decide being themselves is the best, and they get the 30 pledges they needed (sorry if you were going to see the movie and I spoiled it for you). Phi Iota Mu in this movie is a sorority with a bunch of mean, preppy girls. The thing is some people were saying this could hurt Zeta, but in reality, I think it would hurt Phi Mu more. I guess we'll see with this year's recruitment starting in a week.
So today, i got up a little earlier and finished my homework. I went to my WWII class. I freaking love that class, and it's only the second class. :) Today we talked about what we think of when we think of WWII, perceptions of WWII, and what problems there are with those perceptions. We decided that the main perception of WWII was that it was a war of good vs. evil, good being the Allies and evil being the Axis. Then we discussed who really was evil, and discussed the horrific things that each side then, and then he asked again, who really was evil. I really think this class is going to make me think. I really like it.
I've also decided I'm going to explore a career in PR a little bit and add it to my many options for when i graduate in May, which is looming ever so near in the future. My dad always told me I'd make a great manager (and even though i hate to admit my dad is actually right, so do i), and I think PR would be a great way to combine that communications.
After classes I went to the store with Amanda so we could get things for the next two weeks of dinners. And then when we came back we watched three episodes of Gilmore Girls, and then went to a Hall meeting where we learned what to do and not do/not get caught doing. :-D Now it's Greek time!!!! I freaking love Greek! Greek rocks my socks off!!! After Greek I'm going to skit practice for theme night (3rd night) of recruitment until 11, and then I'll either proceed to work on homework I put off or save it until tomorrow when I have a 7 hour break and go to bed. Oh the life of a college student.

my weekend
So my weekends are totally devoted to Phi Mu lately. This is how my schedule went for the weekend. Friday, recruitment practice from 7 to 9 and then "Dante's Inferno" (the biggest party of the school year) from 11 to 1. There so much dirty stuff going on. It really was like stuff you see on TV.
Saturday was recruitment practice from 9 to 9. We actually got out at 5 that day, but I am in the skit, so we stayed until 7 and then I went to "Atomic Waste" from 10 to 11, then "Going for the Gold" from 11 to 11:45 and "Kummanawana" from 11:45 to 12:30. All of those were parties as well. There wasn't as much dirty stuff going on here, but that's b/c there were three parties for everyone to spread out around instead of the entire campus going to one frat house for a party. :-P After that my roommate Amanda and I came back here to get ready to go celebrate a friend's 21st birthday at LA Grill (a local sports bar). The reason we had to get ready is because at these parties, we have to wear our letters so we can show that we are out and about. And we're not allowed to drink in letters so we had to change.
Then today we had skit practice from 11 to 1 and then recruitment practice from 1 to 9. Now it's homework time, you know, the stuff I've been putting off since Wednesday. As crazy as this weekend was... it was a lot of fun just to go out and have some fun with my sisters, I think I might go out a little more this year instead of chilling in my room watching movies like I usually do. :)
College life is such a blast, but it is so tiring... go figure. Next up this evening is reading for Basic reporting. then I have to submit 5 article ideas... I have no idea what to submit. What a great way to start off the year, turning nothing in! Tomorrow I have audio production though... and the labor day picnic. :-D
Oh P.S. for you lucky ones *cough* everyone *cough* who have tomorrow off... enjoy your three-day weekend. I'll be in class. :-P

School begins
So I have officially started my first year of school. I started yesterday and have had 4 of my 6 classes. This year I'm taking Basic Reporting, Media Theory and Research, Second World War, Strategic Public Relations, Audio Production and Voice. So far, all of my classes have proved to be nothing like I thought they would be. It's weird how things you imagine one way, always seem to turn out a different way.
Basic reporting was my first class yesterday. I was going to take it last spring but was encouraged by many people (including my adviser) to wait until the fall since we would have a new professor (and when your adviser suggests it, you listen). So I went to class yesterday, and was informed that we would be reverting back to middle school in that class. We would be taking spelling and geography quizzes every Friday, in addition to our AP style quizzes. I was very shocked at that. I haven't had a spelling test since elementary school I think. We also have to read the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, New York Times, and Evansville Courier and Press like every day. Oh joy. What is it with teachers and making students read the newspaper?
My Media Theory and Research class is taught by my adviser, who was also my web production teacher, so at least I'm already used to his style of teaching. It turns out that this class is a repeat of a class I took spring semester of my freshman year, but instead of working in a group for a research proposal, I get to do it on my own. So woohoo for more work.
Today I had my Second World War class with Dr. James Macleod, he's Scottish. :) I'm really looking forward to this class, because I've always loved learning about World War II. This year is going to be way interesting. I have a group presentation over the propaganda in WWII and a term paper comparing and contrasting how prison camps in different countries treated their prisoners. And of course, there's his accent to enjoy when he's lecturing. :-D
I also had PR today, and we were informed that we get to be the guinea pig class this year. Over the summer, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences went to a bunch of conferences where they were emphasizing distance learning, and Evansville is very traditional in their teaching methods for the most part, but the wanted to try and adapt this new style of learning for some classes and see if it would work, so my PR class, was one that got volunteered to do it. So instead of meeting every Tuesday and Thursday, we will only meet on Tuesdays. I was pretty intrigued by this, which means I only have one class on Thursdays... another woo hoo please. :)
I haven't had the other two yet, but it's ok, because I've had sorority things to keep me busy. We have recruitment coming up September 10 - 14. Which means I moved in a week before everyone else so we could begin practicing. We practice conversation, cheering, rotating, name song, other songs, and skits. I think it will be a lot of fun. There's a lot of things that go into recruitment, but I will save that for another day.
Feels good to be blogging again, it's been about two years since I did it in Harlaxton. Should be fun. Now it's off to discipline. Oh geez.
